Name all of the justifed wars the US has participated in in our history

I'm back in the undecided column about the Afghan War. On the one hand I can say that I support a military response to the attack on our soil, but the way in which Bush has handled the Afghan War gives me pause.

2. I'd add WW1. There are other smaller ones, but I don't remember

enough of the details to comment. I think it's time to re-read American hisotry with the new-found truth needle I now possess. I bet I would get thrown out of high school or college now-a-days!

7. WW1 as regards the USA was not justified in the least.

Howard Zinn's "The People's History of the USA" is quite convincing that the American Industrialists pushed hard for Pres. Wilson to change his mind about committing American Troops and weaponry.

During the American Revolutionary War, the Americans repeatedly appealed to the British colony of Quebec to join the revolution. The Second Continental Congress preapproved Quebec for statehood under Article 11 of the Articles of Confederation (ratified March 1, 1781). Each time the Americans were rebuffed by the French Canadian majority. As a result, the Continental Army invaded Canada in three separate expeditions during 1775 and 1776, but were ultimately unsuccessful, and Canada remained under British control.

After the revolution, however, the demographic situation in Canada changed significantly. A large number of English-speaking colonists — many of them American by birth (some United Empire Loyalists) — settled to the west in Upper Canada (present-day Ontario). The Canadian colonies were only lightly defended by the British, and some Americans believed that the majority in the English-speaking area, at least, would rise up and greet an American invading army as liberators: as Thomas Jefferson suggested in 1812, "the acquisition of Canada this year, as far as the neighborhood of Quebec, will be a mere matter of marching, and will give us the experience for the attack on Halifax, the next and final expulsion of England from the American continent." The growing belief that the United States was destined to control all of the North American continent would later gain the name Manifest Destiny, but that term was not yet in use during the war.

Now, as for World War I and the first Gulf War, I don't think our motives were good -- I think we did it for business -- but in each case, I do think it was a good thing that we went in. Things could have been worse otherwise.

6. Did we really need to go into Afghanistan with the military

or could a smaller, mobile force confined to the eastern area where the camps were have done the job?

Did we have to hand it over to the Northern Alliance, which basically means the poppy growers and warlords, or should we have left well enough alone?

Do we really need to make nice with the Taiban now, since they seem to be the only ones dedicated to taking on those warlords and driving them back?

There are too many questions. Personally, I think we may have tried to swat a fly with a Buick. I also think we made things worse by bringing back the local warlords. I do know that once there, we should have concentrated on them. Robbing that effort to go on the fool's errand in Iraq was criminal.

17. One tidbit that got overlooked....

the Taliban offered up Bin Laden right after 9/11 and we turned them down. sure there were strings attached (like Taliban staying in power), but in retrospect, sounds like it may have been a good deal.

about the Civil War. we might have been better off as two separate countries I think some days. Freeing the slaves was the only good thing to come out of that one. But it was a biggy, so I guess I'll stick with you there too.

11. This is something I've been mulling over

I wonder if slavery might have died out on its own with the increase in mechanization in the 19th century. But I don't know enough about Reconstruction history to know if the mechanization was spurred by the outlawing of slavery.

Not technically a US war, since it predates 1776.

13. F & I war had little or nothing to do with us.

It was the local theater of the european war at the time...seven years war, maybe? I wouldn't count it as "ours".

I still can't belive how many cruise-missile Leftist fell for that shit.

We started the break-up then supported known terrorist group like the KLA.

I imagine someone will disagree with me but the whole mess was the beginning of the preemptive/interventionist/imperialist post-Cold war Amerika.
