Help. I think I may be a Communist!
Well, not exactly. But I was just browsing the website of Communist Party USA, and their platform doesn't sound that radical.

they have the name "The Communist Party". I hate to say it but it's going to be kind of a rough moniker to operate under for quite some time I fear.

12. I met the old Barr with Joe Namath a couple of times
He use to drag Joe around with him along with Jack Hurlburt (sp?) and Leroy to various functions. Joe looked funny with the short hair, but then this was around 1963.

Both Joe and the Bear had their share of female admirers, if you know what I mean. :-)

14. gotcha!
I've never met Joe or Leroy. But I ran into Bear Bryant at the Tuscaloosa airport when I was little. I said "Hey Bear Bryant!" He said "My name is Paul Bryant!" He was grumpy, but he gave me an autograph anyway. Can't blame him for being grumpy. Alabama had just been beat by Notre Dame... he was coming in from either the Sugar Bowl or Orange Bowl. Can't remember which one. His wife was very sweet.

Wouldn't mind meeting Joe Namath. I bet he would be fun to hang out with, if you know what I mean. ;)

18. Coach Jordan always called him Paul
I asked him about that once, and Shug said, "Well, that's what he wants to be called".

The more I think about it, the more I think it was 1962 when Leroy and Jack were with him along with Namath. In 63 it was Namath and someone else. Getting old and the memory is fuzzy.

War Eagle and Roll Tide anyway.

10. Hey - I agree with portions of the Libertarian & Green Platforms, too.
But I still hold out hope that the nanny state control freaks, allegedly 'liberal' neo-puritans and the GOP lite cowards will get out of the way--- so that my DEMOCRATIC Party will take up the mantle of a truely brave opposition party that stands up unapologetically for the rights of individuals while simultaneously taking clear, moral stands on issues like Iraq, a liveable minimum wage, and a SPHC system.

21. Their platform is ideal
The problem is the Communist label is very offensive to many and would never work. That is why I love the term Progressive. Because anyone who is against a livable minimum wage, against funding education, for tax cuts for the rich, for an unnecessarily large military, for the death penalty and racial profiling and spying on Americans, etc. are not progressives but very regressive.

If someone would run on a communist/socialist platform without the totalitarianism Russia had, I would vote for him or her in a heartbeat. When done right, it beats capitalism hands down.
