Is it time to lighten up just a bit? Bush is in the 30's in the polls. The Repubs are running scared over the elections in November. People are starting to see the liars for what they are. Abramoff got 6 years today. A few more are running from the law. We are winning. Take a deep breath and enjoy it for a moment.

14. If you look at just Dems vs. Repubs, things do look a little better.

However, I am in absolute agreement with you, SwampRat. In the Gulf, they are not getting better anywhere near the pace they should be. I know some things are happening there in terms of clean up and rebuilding, but it disgusts me that all these months later, most of the areas hit still look like the aftermath of of the detonation of a nuclear bomb. This should not be happening in this country. You and every other Katrina/Rita survivor should not still be without permamnent places to live, should still be without the most essential things in the area in which you had been (and maybe once again are) living before the hurricanes hit.

If the Dems do regain some power in November, you can bet that one of the first things I'm going to be looking at is WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO DO TO HELP THE GULF REGION AND ITS RESIDENTS? Yes, there are a lot of things on the table that need to be dealt with, but as far as I'm concerned. the Gulf and the people of that area had better be on top of the list.

It just seems like every time things start to look a little better... BOOM! Something else comes along to make it look as bad if not worse. Kind of like the Dubai ports deal. They pulled out under pressure, and you start to think "hey, sanity is prevailing a little." Next day: China will be doing port security via a no-bid contract. I just don't trust my lying eyes anymore, know what I mean? :)

I read an article in the NYT (the actual newspaper, not the online version, lol) that said that Abramoff had several pleas for leinency made on his behalf, including one from a territorial governor.

I wanted to see the book thrown at him, but instead we get crony courts. I guess we should count ourselves lucky that he didn't just manage to buy off the jury.:evilfrown:

Perhaps I'm clueless. But to me the attitude on DU seems pretty relaxed these days, even with the Immigration Wars. Overall, people seem pretty positive. I'm having a blast.

Actually, the reason why I have more time these days is because I'm no longer spending hours every day trying to satisfy the small minority of DU members who are constantly upset about stuff. And I no longer waste too much time trying to convince jerks to stop being jerks. If someone makes it clear that they don't have any interest in being a positive contributer to the communty, I'm a lot quicker to pull the plug. It's harsh, but it seems to be effective.

I'm a much happier person for it, and I can finally spend some time doing things I enjoy like posting on DU or writing. I also think DU is better now that certain people are starting to realize that they can't jerk me around all day.

It's frustrating as hell when you have no real redress to all the shit this regime has piled up. There's few representatives with real spines to shout down this regime, a corporate media that rolls over to get the Rovian spin on every story and a Democratic/Progressive/Liberal blogosphere that is pulling many of us emotionally in the other direction.

It'll get both better and more frustrating as more crap is revelead, more bodies come home, more jobs are lost and lives are ruined by this regime. With no real levers to enact chance other than our keyboards and some shoe leather. The challenge is to come to an understanding that the common good supercedes specific interests when it comes to winning seats this November. Democrats will need to come out strong and support their candidates this fall...putting behind the animosities they may feel about certain candidates or factions of the party...lest we get stuck with another 2 years or longer of Repugnican rubber stamping.

Hopefully there will come a time when we can sort out which Democrat is the "real deal" or a "DINO", but right now any Repugnican power is out enemy here. We must all find common cause to destroy that power structure and then bring its abusers to justice.

Repugnican failures affect all of us. Those dead and wounded returning from Iraq aren't Repugnicans, they're part of all of us. I can go on with a ton of Repugnican power and money scams. The sad deal is there are some...dare I say many...here who suspected a lot of this was going on and the revelations aren't a time for schadenfraude or some kind of gloating or vindication, it's a reminder of what's created this mess and to try to keep the eye on the real prize...removing Repugnicans rather than running endless purity and popularity tests on all stripes of Democrats.

People don't care what I think, and that's fine with me...I'm not one with the crowd either. I look at things as I see 'em and let the chips fall where they may. Right now the Democratic party is the only real vehicle to put the brakes on this Repugnican regime and a future platform for positive changes...but the frustration I see here is the priorities...so many want to get to point C without thinking out how to get past points A or B.

While idealism is great, there has to be a degree of realism and practicality...things that aren't likely to flourish here as speculation and theatrics get more attention.

I have a neighbor that only has two children: two teenage boys. My neighbor, John, has several beautiful fruit trees in his yard. He has worked hard many years to cultivate those trees. And each year he has a large garden in his yard that produces a prodigious amount of produce. John and his sons work hard each year to ensure a bounteous harvest. In years past they have even shared with us some of their fruits, albeit only a tiny pittance of the total harvest.

My wife and I have six children, all still at home. I don’t think it is right that they should have to work as hard as John’s sons. I don’t like to work that hard either. It is my right to enjoy my evenings and weekends without having to worry about extra work.

Because we have six children we sometimes have a hard time making ends meet. Between birthdays, food, entertainment, etc. we sometimes find it difficult to make our mortgage payment because the greedy bank charges too much. And then the children suffer. It is not right that the children should suffer.

And it is not right that John should have all of that free produce to himself. He should have to share more of it with my family. After all, he has so much and we have so little. And he only has to provide for two kids while we have six – we deserve more. Didn’t Jesus teach that there should be no poor among you?

John should have to pay his fair share. I am therefore calling for the city council to pass an ordinance confiscating John’s extra harvest and dividing it up among those of us who are more deserving of it because we need it more!

We do need to keep our eye on the ball. But we also need to remain united as best as possible around the truth about the hazards of this Administration and Republicans in general. They must be defeated. DU doesn't need an attitude adjustment - the whole country needs an attitude adjustment.

The post is meant to encourage those that might feel like giving up - not to discourage those that are still fighting the bastards. Don't read too much into it. :)
