Hocking more KALOOGIANs - UPDATE!
I was just making Special Election phone calls for MoveOn - and a Busby supporter shared this tidbit - I am going to check it out to see if it is true -but I have to post it!

She said that Kaloogian, after the mess, posted a DIFFERENT green zone photo on his website.

Well apparently, that photo is of the Baghdad Police Station - which has been destroyed! by a bomb.

Now, she said, his website is down. I am going to check on this now.

13. My friend spent 18 months IN the Green Zone, and he said they slept
in helmets & flak jackets..they had ROCKET ATTACKS landing INSIDE the green zone and snipers firing into it EVERY DAY..

so it's not even idyllic inside the "safe areas".

28. You bring out a very interesting point about the Green Zone...
I have always wondered how it is, that the Green Zone is still standing. I think it's a miracle. It's major, sprawling target, sitting in the middle of a war zone.

Maybe I don't know enough about the physical barricades that surround it or the security around it---but it's amazing that it still exists--or that it hasn't incurred a major attack.

SoCalDem, you mention that your friend said that there are rocket attacks and sniper fire inside of it every day. That's interesting. I've never heard that. I've never heard of a report about a US soldier dying inside the Green Zone. I wonder if it's happened, but they cover it up?

I worry about the Green Zone. I know they've evaded a major attack--but they've got to know that they're sitting ducks. I can't imagine that the Green Zone will escape a major, devastating attack. With the insurgency and civil war exacerbating--it seems inevitable.

One more reason for getting our troops out NOW!

SECURITY INCIDENTS in Baghdad: (apparently after "Kook-loogian" returned home?)

Gunmen line up 14 employees working at an electronics trading company in Baghdad Wednesday morning and shoot them all, killing eight and wounding six, police said.

Gunmen kill three staffers of Muqtada al-Sadr in drive-by shooting in west Baghdad.

Gunmen attack highway police patrol in west Baghdad, killing one policeman and wounding four others, including a civilian.

In south Baghdad, sniper kills a policeman on patrol in Dora neighborhood.

A general director in Iraq's Central Bank wounded when gunmen attacked him while he was driving.

One Iraqi army soldier killed and another two wounded when their patrol was struck by a roadside bomb near Abu Ghraib prison.

Australian resident shot dead in Iraq. University of Baghdad Professor Kays Juma, 72, was killed when nervous security guards fired on his car last Saturday as he drove near a convoy of four-wheel drives carrying private contractors.

What on earth do those jumpy security guards have to be "nervous" about. SHEESH!

10. This guy found the exact site (from TalkingPointsMemo):
http://www.boomantribune.com/story/2006/3/29/23428/8027

It's great work. Note that he identifies the police station , which IS one that was bombed (in April, I think). Note the large walls surrounding the "safe and secure" area from which the picture was taken (Al Rashid Hotel in the Green Zone).

As someone points out on this guy's site, we should get bloggers to find Osama.

21. No, the photo's not from April. The bombing occurred then.
Edited on Thu Mar-30-06 12:47 PM by Brotherjohn
TPM, or someone else somewhere (Kos, maybe) showed that the photo was from July 13 2005. He did go in July 2005.

Now, the Police Station appears undamaged in the July picture, but I'd say it's a bit far off to conclude the picture was taken pre-bombing. The building wasn't destroyed (and in fact, the blue and white paint looks intact in the pictures while it's burning).

Which doesn't let Kaloogian off the hook. I mean, is THAT the best you can do to show how "safe" Baghdad is? A view of a police station that was bombed 3 months prior, from a hotel balcony in the Green Zone?

I'd love it if someone could take his picture and superimpose arrows marking the sites of explosions or attacks in the 6 months before and after it was taken.

23. Thanks, Bro. Yeah, I saw from the DKos link that the station was
not completely destroyed. But his photo apparently was taken from DEEP inside the Green Zone. How dare he speak of how safe Baghdad is. It's three years into this shit and Baghdad is MUCH worse.

18. That's what I was saying. It's another lie, if that's the case.
The photo is of a police station bombed last April, so the photo is OLD and not one taken during his recent trip, and therefore, means nothing with regards to how safe he found Baghdad on his trip.

38. Weren't those military people in Florida?
Or were some of them conclusively in Baghdad?

He seems to use the vague credit-stealing "we" formation when talking about the trip. He says, for example, that "we" received a Mark Twain award, when it was someone in the group that did.

Kaloogian fires back! You see, we're America haters and he loves the troops. All because we exposed his little propaganda ploy. TPM Muckracker has Kaloogian's Move America Forward PAC's IRS form 990, for those who want to dig around it a bit. And Josh laughs at Kaloogian's website troubles.
