It's pretty distorted due to the fact that the storms are bearing down on the radar sites that those images are taken from (ICT, and OKC)

5. It is CREEPY here right now.
Big storms all around about 5 or 6 tornado warnings all around. I posted in the Weather Group but I will ask you all. Our weather guy told us we were in a PDS Tornado Watch. I have never heard that in all my life here. He said it was a rare warning of a "particularly dangerous situation". Never heard of this before, have any of you?

Whatever, the latest bout stopped about 5 minutes ago and there is another in about 5 minutes from now. I LOVE spring storm season.

You all take care.

will have an observation tower (supposed to look like a silo) just to get up above the trees to watch the storms. I can't wait.

I always go outside to watch. There goes the damned weather radio again. Tornado warning next county to the southwest coming this way, should be here in about 40 minutes. Big wall clouds out now.

43. Seems that Topeka is being spared
all the bad stuff, it is skirting all around us. What we got was windy, loud and intense for just a little while. Nothing to write home about here but the rest of the state got clobbered in some areas. Nothing terrible but wind damage in some areas.

23. It's really creepy right now. It's started in Lawernce and should be
here any minute. I'm right on I-35 looking West outside my living room window and I can see it coming our way.

They've classified it as "PDS" - which means Potentially Dangerous Situation. I'm a native and I've never heard that phrase before today.

We are having more of these in the last few years. Just like the increase in hurricanes, I think it's all global warming related. These storms happen when cold fronts meet warm fronts. The warm front seems to be pushing up this way earlier than normal, causing it to clash with that end of winter cold from the North.

Everything sort of spit up and went around us. Still is windy and little bits of rain but nothing more than that.

Have you noticed the odd gusting that started? I noticed it last year towards the end of the year. This spring I have noticed it a lot. It might be windy out, usually is, then there will be an odd feeling followed by a long, hard gust that comes on quickly and ends quickly usually about 20 or 30 seconds. Like a small micro burst. It is different than I have ever noticed and I pay a lot of attention to the weather since I am out in it so much. Just wondering, darn near blows me off my feet when it happens.

Edit I forgot to wish you well in the storms. Keep your head down.

we have been dealing since this morning. We are pretty much in between the lines right now. My radar is going nuts right now but it looks like you are getting the line that passed through here. Watch closely, it is pretty intense.

37. Yes, they looked
like they were going north fast enough to be just north of us but now it appears they are bowing so wind will be a problem. I think I will leave for the farm now. Thanks.

Going to a masters class tonight at the chapel on the campus. Funny thing I thought of, in 1966 when the F5 wiped out Topeka there was a clarinet recital going on in the chapel on the campus. One of my friends was playing in it. It was wiped off the face of the globe. They survived because they got into the "wrong" corner according to the wisdom of the time. I don't know why I thought of that but this morning it creeped me out.

Oh well, better run. I would rather be in the chapel than in the bathtub at the farm. ;)

40. I've never chased storms, but they fascinate me. I love to watch
a good lightning display. I grew up in "Tornado Alley" and although I'm not really afraid of the storms, I do have a healthy respect for them and have a closet designated as my hidey-hole if it gets too severe.

41. I miss my home state Kansas weather!
I live in Colorado now. Puny, dull -- no serious cloud rotation. When I was growing up in Southeast Kansas and there was a tornado watch at night, my mother would put a full-length panty girdle on under her nightgown. She figured if she and her nightgown got blown away by a tornado, the girdle would stay on. Can't be nekkid.

I'm so jealous, you guys!

44. And we now have rotation people
I'm in Mid Mo, and the storm line that passed through KS is now just about thirty miles away. Clouds are going in that nice, big circular pattern that proceeds a big weather system. We've had lots of heat building up this afternoon, lots of energy for the system to feed off of. Should be an interesting night.

PDS, for those of you upthread who were wondering, is a rare event. It basically means that these are some serious supercells that have the potential to form really serious tornadoes and really severe weather. The last PDS we had in Mid Mo was a week and a half ago. Then we got ten tornadoes touching down within a three county region and baseball sized hail. These PDS warnings are only supposed to be a very few times a year, but hey, the weather world wide is going nuts, gotta love global climate change.

I hope everybody comes through the night OK. I'm taking out of here in a minute and heading home, hopefully outrun the storm(I've got to head east about twenty miles) Then I'll be able to watch this from my back deck.

So take care, have fun, and stay safe.
