Poll question: If all the illegal immigrants in the US would suddenly receive Amnesty ...

Would that suddenly end the debate among those who say they have no problem with immigration, but only have a problem with ILLEGAL immigration?

After all, amnesty is nothing but a pardon. It means they won't be ILLEGAL anymore in the eyes of the law. So judging from all these threads where so many people are bothered by their legal status and nothing else, I imagine if they get amnesty, then these people welcome them into our country.

Am I right or am I wrong?

2. Here's why it's a problem.

I know a lot of illegal immigrants personally. Their attitude is that if they can just manage to stay in the country long enough for another amnesty like the last one that was issued, that's all they need. It's why they'll come back even if they get deported.

In other words, the first amnesty provided a LOT of incentive for more to come over. It's a big ol' invitation for more illegal immigration. Amnesty is a horrible idea without something else behind it in the way of prevention.

with 15% being concerns about wages driven down and 5% being concerns about costs of social service immigrants use a lot of (public schools and public health mainly).

There are legitimate reasons to be concerned about the effect of illegal immigration, but this is not what motivates most of the political opposition to it.

i say give them all work visas, enforce laws against hiring illegals, minimum wage for all (raise it if you can) , benefits for all.

let the playing field even itself out. given the choice between a pool of american raised and educated workers or foreign workers at the same salary who do you think will get more jobs? the more qualified, right. as it should be.

The only reason domestic labor gets what it does is because of limited supply. What will you tell your countrymen who loose their jobs as a result of your social experiment? Go to Mexico?

11. i think you are wrong. minimum wage standards are not set by

supply and demand but by dictates of society and government.

its not plentiful labor that is taking the jobs. its cheap labor. cheaper than minimum and no responsibility for the employers.

enforce minimum wages and employee rights and punish those that employ outside the system.
you think these desperate immigrants are more qualified and desirable employees than americans at the same wages and benefits?

I live in miami. we have as many immigrants as anyplace. i dont know which are legal or not.
i have to work with people all of the time that speak NO english. i have to get someone to translate so they can fix a sprinkler, a gate, cut a tree answer any question. etc etc etc.

Oh, right, because it is insane. How is this any different? Get it through your heads. There are plenty of reasons to oppose increasing the population that have nothing to do with hate.

I have no problem with a general amnesty, and have no problem with the people who receive it.

But if it's done without being part of a greater plan to prevent illegal immigration, then it's just fucked up.
