There are Social Security numbers EVERYWHERE.
I was doing some work online at the county clerk's office's website. Holy cow, I had no idea ... :wow:

I knew they were pretty much out there, but I didn't realize how often. Every other document filed, whether a judgement or a lien or a real estate tranfer, SS#'s all over the place. None of them redacted, which would've been a good idea.

Identity theft isn't just for the clever. I would expect more arrests, though, as the dumber criminals find out what's out there. Investigators can claim progress! :D

1. Impossible
The government assured me years ago that the SS number would never be used for other than social security.

Not for identification.

NOT TO BE USED FOR PURPOSES OF IDENTIFICATION

which is a good thing, since I don't look anything like I did at age 11 :)

3. SOS Blackwell from Ohio had them on the state website
apparently for people who had some type of loan or something. That created a big stink a few weeks ago. He's finally agreed to remove the SS numbers but I think it took a court case to "encourage" him.

5. I had to give mine to the dentist this morning...
My dental insurance uses it as a member identification. Met Freaking Life!

8. Those of us on medicare and medicaid have to give them
to our doctors and other health care professionals because our account is our SS #. So there is no privacy really. I don't know why HS wants ID cards as well. SS#'s are already used to track us all over the place.
