Lieberman booed at Connecticut state Democratic party dinner tonight
by John in DC - 3/30/2006 08:40:00 PM

We just got a call from someone attending the dinner that Lieberman was just introduced and got loudly booed by the audience.

At the very least he should run for re-election as a rethug.

10. For the times they are a-changin' ...
by Bob Dylan http://www.bobdylan.com/songs/times.html

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

56. Link to another thread on DU and an AP article about the event.....
Here’s a link to a thread in General Discussion: Politics....Leiberman booed at state party dinner:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2543906

And within that thread is a link for AP article about the Connecticut event:

http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/news/local/state/hc-30222017.apds.m0042.bc-ct--obammar30,0,2221245.story?coll=hc-headlines-local-wire

And one of the best quotes from the Advocate.....

“Some at Thursday's dinner said that while they were pleased with Lieberman's success in bringing Obama to Connecticut, they still consider Lieberman uncomfortably tolerant of the Bush administration.”

30. No surprise there -- we already knew Lamont's supporters were rude SOB's
Of course, there are plenty of voters all across the political spectrum who don't particularly care for that kind of behavior. Personally, I hope Lamont's supporters keep pulling these cheap stunts, because I think ultimately they hurt Lamont far more than they hurt Lieberman.

40. dolstein!!!!! Great to see you after so long. You're a great Dem
(so am I, and so are we almost-all). I know you'll defend Joementum to the end. And *I* believe he is a decent human *and* a good Dem on 90+ percent of things. But I didn't like his performance against CHEENEE in the 2000 debates, am vastly underwhelmed by his namby-pamby persona, and am SEVERELY turned off by his support of the Shrubbite agenda.

I'm going to say this, not deserving to be flamed, but I believe that his number one, dominating issue is anthing-for-Israel, and this is why he is in Shrub's corner on the Iraq Attack. It is the invisible elephant in the room, not only for Joementum, but for a lot of Dem politicians. If this is considered to be flame bait, I hope the Mods will delete this post forthwith. (I think it's true, though.)

Anyway, good to see you, dolstein.

47. Things are changing
I was at a town Dem Meeting last week where Lamonte spoke. He got numerous rounds of applause. Then Lieberman's spokesman got up and started by saying that the Dem's have a big tent and we don't all need to agree on issues like the occupation Iraq (my words, he said 'war on Iraq'), and was booed. I don't know what the vote for delegates for the primary was, but in Greenwich he garnered 16 0f the 22 delegate votes and Lieberman got none.

Lieberman is more popular with Republicans and conservative undeclared voters than with Dem's. He should be worried about the primary. Personally, I can see him losing the primary. The only chance a Republican has is if he loses the primary and runs as an independent. Then the Dem/Progressive vote will be split and a Repub stands a chance

72. I think it's hard for Ned to get the visibility he needs
I get a quizzical look from some folks when I bring up Ned's challenge to Joe. Joe gets all the ink, Ned gets a little, even tho he's going to every town in CT, and there are over 160 of them.

As for Dolstein's observation, I have to laugh. I was at Ned's strategy session in New Haven a few weeks ago and there were seniors. League of Women Voters types, Fairfield County matrons, Yalies, 30 somethings. Not a rude voice in the room. It was what is sometimes called "a nice group" of people. So where Dolstein gets the idea that all these rude people support Ned, I don't know. Is he even in CT?

BTW, booing is not necessarily rude. And people who won't sit down and shut up are not necessarily rude.

I'd thought he'd be hanging out with his pals Sean Hannity, and Zell Miller.

59. Why is Obama endorsing Joenertia?
I keep thinking back to his speech in 2004.

Maybe the person who wrote the speech should run for office.

69. I've been around many elections...

Lieberman appears to be yesterday's news -- but he was useful in '04 to bring the "right" agenda to undecided Democrats.

Now Liebrman is firmly established as what he's always been -- A totalitarian.

The Jews I know don't like being associated with this kind of hegemony.

73. I hope this message can be sustained.
the message: Democrats seeking to be like republicans and voting with the president on illegal warfare and making no efforts to be truthful over policy will be in trouble in the primaries.
