Why are providing sources to new 'news' so important?

Think about it; has anything been posted on DU that has been proved to be not up to snuff?
Sometimes it has through no fault of the poster or admin, but consider what mayhem might ensue if this rule wasn't SOP usually? Sometimes even the valid sources get it wrong. Our admins have been wise to institute the rules in effect.

We can usually, (at least 97 percent of the time), believe what we read here and use it to make decisions and opinions about the political landscape as it applies to us, our familes, friends and countries.
