Helen Thomas, Al Franken, David Brock, to Host Forum at GW; 'Why Media Ma
Is there any way to get CSPAN to cover this forum?

Media Matters for America, Air America Radio to Host Forum at GW; 'Why Media Matters – Progressive Voices and the Media', UPDATED

3/27/2006 1:10:00 PM

To: Assignment Desk, Daybook Editor, Political Reporter

Contact: Daniela Colaiacovo, 202-756-4124 or dcolaiacovo@mediamatters.org or Jeremy Funk, 202-756-4109 or jfunk@mediamatters.org, both of Media Matters for America

News Advisory:

EVENT: Conservatives not only control all three branches of government, major parts of the media are increasingly conservative, too. Conservatives dominate the cable and radio airwaves, as well as the nation's op-ed pages. Meanwhile, the established news media is under constant assault from the right for demonstrating a so-called liberal bias, which many progressives critics allege leads to softer coverage, more accommodating of those in power and imperiling objective, independent inquiry. Recently, reportage on the Iraq war has been drawn into the political crosshairs.

Can progressives find their media voice? Is news coverage skewed to either side? What can consumers of news do to ensure accurate and reliable reporting? These and other questions will be explored on April 5 at George Washington University by a range of media practitioners and critics. They'll identify both problems and potential solutions.

1. I don't know how you go about getting coverage.
I guess you can send it to CSPAN - they must have contact information. I know if I lived there, I'd be going to this.

7. Checked the Calendar - April 5 looks wide open.
Sent it to the events@c-span.org

Subject: A Great Event for CSpan to cover at George Washington University April 5, 2006!

This should be a lively and spirited discussion. Helen Thomas has been recently been awarded an avalanche of Roses from the Democratic Underground for her fearless pursual of the answers to tough questions. Democratic Underground has about 80,000 registered members who for example would find this type of programming interesting. Many of us can not get to Washington DC and the Main Stream Media has gone so far away from simply reporting the truth as it is set out there, we really appreciate CSpan more and more. If you could also make it available for purchase on DVD format that would be even better. If you notify me of it being available, I will notify DU.

Thanks.

WHAT:

Progressive Media Representatives to discuss our current situation in Media Matters and identify both problems and potential solutions.

9. My hubby works from home. He gets CSpan, my work has CNN or FAUX...
in the lunchroom there is a TV and sometimes someone changes it to FAUX and removes the choice of CNN from the channel selection.

So I watch Alan Specter saying the pRes has done nothing wrong and I have to wait until I get home to find out who actually spoke up in the committee.

6. This sound like a good start...
A critical examination of what, exactly is needed to break through the MSM barrier.

It's a very worthwhile cause.
