Kaloogian caught in another lie. Endorsements page probably a pack of them

"The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association does not endorse candidates. However, the separate Political Action Committee does endorse some. That list will be available closer to the election."

I received this response from HJTA just minutes ago.

Oddly enough when you go to Howard Kaloogian's Endorsements page, you'll see this at the very top of the page:

Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association PAC
The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association is dedicated to the protection of Proposition 13 and the advancement of taxpayers' rights, including the right to limited taxation, the right to vote on tax increases and the right of economical, equitable and efficient use of taxpayer dollars.

Not surprising that an alleged "Endorser" of Kaloogian would contradict him on that. Yesterday, Josh Marshall noted that Calif. State Sen. Tom McClintock denied being an endorser:

"It has come to my attention that a campaign mailing on behalf of Howard Kaloogian includes a picture and quote from me that suggests that I have endorsed his candidacy for U. S. Congress. I have not."

2. That's not how endorsement pages work.
They're supposed to be current.

4. It's almost too easy.
Here's how to debunk a Kaloogian claim: pick any that strike your fancy, ask the person about whom it's made if it's true and, voila! Claim debunked.

It looks like it's not the "taxpayers association" but the PAC which is endorsing him, according to these two phrases. Perhaps it needs further looking into?

12. Correction! HJTA Pac did in fact endorse Kaloogian!
Edited on Fri Mar-31-06 04:35 PM by BurtWorm
My source at HJTA replied to my specific inquiry:

"Howard Kaloogian was endorsed 6 weeks ago. It is listed on his website."

I sent him this note of appreciation:

Thank you. It's good to know that at least one thing on Howard's Website is true! ;-)

(Apparently he's been caught lying about a few of his other endorsements, including The California Pro-Life Council and State Senators Tom McClinctock and Bill Morrow. It just makes you wonder how many of his other endorsements are figments of his imagination. It might even make some wonder what sort of organization would endorse a guy like Kaloogian.)

Leave it up to Kaloogian to keep on using inuendo for his nefarious purposes. That is, until someone questions him closely about it, and then he's full of excuses.

The jackals smell someone in the flock dying here! :)

50th Congressional District – Special Election
McClintock and Morrow protest Kaloogian using photos, quotes

UNION-TRIBUNE

March 31, 2006

State Sen. Tom McClintock, R-Thousand Oaks, wants to clear up something: He did not endorse former state Assemblyman Howard Kaloogian of San Marcos for the 50th Congressional District race.

Kaloogian mailers have gone to Republican households containing a picture of McClintock with quotes from the popular conservative saying nice things about Kaloogian. McClintock, who is running for lieutenant governor, protested yesterday that those quotes were from two years ago when he endorsed Kaloogian for U.S. Senate.

McClintock said because of his high regard for state Sen. Bill Morrow – who also is running for the 50th Congressional District seat – he is not making an endorsement in the race.

For his part, Kaloogian points out that the mailer doesn't actually say McClintock is endorsing him for this race. McClintock's picture and quote run under a headline: “Respected by conservative leaders.” Others under that headline, like Steve Forbes, have given their endorsement and it says so. McClintock wasn't the only one irked by Kaloogian's use of other candidates. Morrow also wasn't happy.
