U.S. corporate profits increased 21.3% wage and salary fallen to 56.9%
Strong productivity gains and subdued wage growth boosted before-tax profits to 11.6% of national income in the fourth quarter of 2005, the biggest share since the summer of 1966.

Meanwhile, the share of national income going to wage and salary workers has fallen to 56.9%. Except for a brief period in 1997, that's the lowest share for labor income since 1966.

11. this was a VERY common scene during the depression
my grandfather went from building 'expensive' houses in the 20s to shoveling slag in a steel mill til it was over, and he was HAPPY to get that job

13. is that waterboarding?
I stuck my cat under the shower once, briefly, when he'd knock over the garbage. I tried squirting him, but he got used to it and would STAND with his paws on the can while I drenched him, staring at me and refusing to budge. a friend told me he had the same trouble, til he put his under the shower for a second. that cured him.

into the business. That is bad news.

I remember the US steel industry stopped putting money into innovation and updating. Worked out well for them, didn't it?

22. Meanwhile, in Pennsylvania...
Lynn Swann has stated he is against raising the minimum wage so that PA workers can stay competitive with the global market.

Do you think voters will remember that come November, or will they just want to elect a football star?

28. That guy's a real genius, no?
I tried to learn what he stands for, and got this, his 'vision':

"Being able to govern effectively requires that you know exactly what you believe in and where you want to take the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. On the following pages, you will be able to read what Lynn believes are our state’s greatest challenges, and what he believes we need to do to confront these challenges.

Our party needs a principled conservative with a vision to get government under control, lower the tax burden on our working families and job creators, and make sure that our children have the opportunity for a quality education that will give them the skills they need to succeed.

In short, we need a Governor who offers fresh and energetic leadership and a vision that offers opportunities for Pennsylvanians."

In other words, nothing. An empty suit trying to regain the spotlight he has so grown to love.

http://www.swannforgovernor.com/Vision/

This guy stands for NOTHING.

33. Not exactly nothing... what he truly believes is DANGEROUS
Don't be fooled by this grinning snake in the grass!

He's against raising the minimum wage
He's totally anti-choice
He believes in tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans ( SwannSpeak = "job creators" )
Homophobe who opposes any/all gay rights
Supports school vouchers over improved public education ( SwannSpeak = "opportunity for a quality education" )
And I can only assume that in SwannSpeak, getting the "government under control" means cuts in social services to those needing them the most.

Do we have someone there who will remind the voters, or is the candidate from the doormat wing of the party?

36. Exactly!
If we forced some of these corps to actually invest in their workers with decent cost of living increases; comprehensive benefit packages, we wouldn't worry about immigration. The immigration issue is not going to fix our neglected labor force. Those that they think it will, are deluded.

31. The people who suffer the most put these assholes in power.
Millions of working people vote against their interests and put republicans in power, believing the lies of huckster politicians and fraud preachers. The super-rich spend billions on propaganda because it works.

The result is always economic calamity. The Democrats always have to clean up the mess and try to level the playing field.

It happens every generation. Now with the mass media firmly in right-wing propaganda mode, it will take a greater calamity to wake the people up from their delusions.

It's going to get worse before it gets better. Prepare for bad times is my advice.

38. This Is The BFEE Plan, Don't Ya Know?
globalization, multi-national companies know no allegiances to any borders.

Stockholders are worldwide as well, and companies stockholders generally hold no allegiances to any country either.

Therefore, the bottom line is the ruling principle.

Citizens be damned.

I had a conversation with a man who has a job selling corporations on the idea of moving their manufacturing base to Vietnam.
He said that the selling point was that "American laborers were lazy and Vietnamese workers were hungry and would work hard for a lot less"

This is what has happened since the Reagan years.

Has anything really ever "trickled down"? I've just felt like I was getting peed on instead of any wealth trickling down.
