By the way, the ad is at the end of the link; so go look. It's a clever patch of misleading lies. Roughly (very roughly) it went like this: Bush took an 'oath' to keep the American people safe... and he's after the terrorists and that includes their communications to and from the U.S... <slice> in Democrats saying Bush broke the law and calling for impeachment or censure or saying that they aren't ruling these things out... <splice> Is that the Democrat's plan? Who do do you stand with, the President or... (those yellow bastards?)

Of course Bush couldn't care less about keeping American safe and his easily abused and fully illegal approach to wiretaps has precious little to do with national security and catching terrorists since he could do the same thing easily--and legally (but then he'd just have to tolerate the notion that he might have to answer for any abuse--in his pride he just can't stand the notion that anyone has oversight powers over him, nevermind that this is the way the government was designed to work).

Nevertheless, I suspect the ad will be highly effective in it's effects on it's target audience (shrub supporters). There's a foul odor about the thing (but what else is new?).

for the sole reason of bringing up the words "censure", "impeachment', and "Bush" in a :30 spot. Most 'Murkins won't even get past that.

And while I admire your reasoning (that is about how they "think"), it may well be that if they see it and immediately react with emotion (again likely), they'll just be outraged that Democrats are even daring to think impeachment or censure (how dare they! nobody in America--no patriot at least, would ever consider impeaching the President for anything short of murder! Oh, how quickly they forget what they did to Clinton--but oh, I forgot--in their minds, a little naughty sex play IS worse than killing innocent people (murder)(especially if those people happen to be different and/or not U.S. citizens)... and they also seem oblivious to the fact that, while Shrub's lawyers might be able to say his acts were "legal" (considering the false premises he used, there's no way those acts should be considered legal, regardless of any allowances for Presidential power), when the truth is, their beloved leader is at the very least, guilty of murder (tens of thousands of times over and counting). Still, they'll ignore those "trivial" concerns (after all, Shrub must've somehow been forced by the Democrats to do what he did--if it really was bad) and focus on the outrage they feel deep in their knickers. Yep, outraged and more convinced than ever that it's those no-good tree-hugging panty-waisted Democrat troublemakers that are keeping this country weak and defenseless (never mind that we are anything but defenseless; despite needing some real improvements in security that in-no-way involves secret domestic spying programs).

He took an Oath to Protect and Defend the Constitution of the USA. and by violating that very Constitution he swore an oath to protect he has abandoned his right to lead the USA.
That is what a counter ad should say but all we will hear is the same silence we always do...

12. Someone from Wisconsin here said Russ's Repub opponent

tried this very same attack (re: patriot act) and he actually won by bigger numbers in this election than his last. I suspect voters in Wisconsin are up on Russ, and Russ keeps them informed with his listening sessions. He's in touch with his constituents and seems to turn this kind of shit to his advantage. One of the many reasons I'm backing him for '08.

by that ad. That's the same percent of Americans who will seemingly support Bush no matter what he does.

The GOP is running out of ideas. "Support Bush or Else Terrorists Will Surround Your House" is threat that is getting really old.
