Military Goes All Out Recruiting At Airshows Don't They?

I went to my first Airshow last weekend, mainly because my son (6 y/o) wanted to go.
Huge crowd. Lots of military there, mainly recruiting personnel along with the pilots. But the Thunderbirds and others are also recruiting tools.

I guess I always knew that Airshows were recruiting tools, just was a little overwhelmed at how much they were pushing.

I mean a jump-around from the Marines, pull up contest from the marines (complete with prizes for the most pull ups, and you know they were very interested in those winners)

I was really more like a Military job fair, with amazing flying going on as a side show.

they seemed to have the full court press going.

and it was all "free" to the public

no wonder, I bet it cost several million to put the show on, and who knows how much to fly the jets.

But just like any other advertising, they have gotten more sophisticated as the years have gone on. They spread through cyber-space with their free first person shooter game that gives potential candidates a virtual taste of real live warfare. Long gone are the days of my youth, when they sent you endless pairs of Army tube socks and sent the Navy jazz band around to the high school.

There's a war going on, and one on the horizon, grist for that bloody mill must be had. Recruitment numbers aren't being met so the press is on. And they are going to use every trick in the book.

The numbers are tallied on such events. It has been determined by numbers and surveys that air shows are fertile ground for recruits, always had been. But now with the need so urgent, you're correct. The emphasis now is on the sale, not the show.

4. Recruiting

They have to recruit. They've always recruited. Thunderbirds and Blue Angels started up right after WWII. Cool recruiting shows by other branches existed in the middle '50s, at least. We have to have armed forces.

The issues are (a) lying to kids, and (2) recruiting for bullshit wars started by (III) presidents who are AWOL, unelected liars.
