Why Did Bill Maher Berate Erica Jong?

All that Erica Jong did was to suggest that maybe the administration had prior knowledge of the 9/11 attacks.

He called this mere suggestion "scurrilous."

I thought that Maher prided himself on being a free thinking person.

Can he not even conceive of the possibility that "LIHOP" could be true?

1. Perhaps he can't bear the thought.

The more I realize about how very greedy, cheating, conning a lot of the human race is the less I wish to go outside and the more afraid I am of dealing with very common things. This makes me sad, though--I'd have thought surely Mr. Maher would have known this ages ago and he's never seemed the sort to be afraid to be unpopular in his observations No one is perfect, I guess.

EDIT: Though it does make me glad in an ugly sad way that SOMEONE has said this on television, even if someone I admire immediately bitched her out for it.

I wonder why though. As corporations go Time-Warner is pretty liberal. (I think they own HBO, but not totally sure.)

As much as has been already revealed about the crimes of the administration, I doubt the sanity of anyone who isn't at least open to the possibility that 9/11 happened "on purpose."

6. I didn't see the show, don't watch tv anymore, but

I've been a big fan of Maher in the past. However, his lack of curiousity about the biggest issue of our time and perhaps in our nation's history, is disappointing to say the least. I think, unfortunately, he is as vain as the typical celebrity and afraid of risking his popularity and access.

9. I'm afraid I'm with Maher on this one.

I think the suggestion that the suggestion is scurrilous, and risible; much as I dislike Bush, I think that to suggest that he knew any specifics about the bombings in advance is silly. *Should have known*, yes; was informed about and didn't believe, conceivably, although I very much doubt in any detail; expected to happen, definately not.

Giving credence to every allegation isn't free thinking, it's marching in lockstep. There are more than enough possibly or probably true accusations to make it necessary to resort to this kind of thing.
