Aravosis slams Cynthia McKinne - calls her 'nutsy-cukoo..wackjob'
NOW and NAACP make fools of themselves defending wackjob Rep. McKinney's ridiculous racial complaint

Good God. If you ever needed proof of how irrelevant the big-monied liberal advocacy groups have become, we got a lovely demonstration today when the NAACP and the National Organization for Women spoke at a press conference on behalf of the nutsy-cukoo Democrat from Georgia, Cynthia McKinney.

You may have already heard about this ridiculous brouhaha. McKinney waltzes into the Congress the other day, bypasses the security checkpoint (which members of Congress are permitted to do), but she doesn't identify herself as a member of Congress and isn't wearing her ID pin that ALL members of Congress are required to wear when at work (for the very reason that there are 535 of them, and it's not always clear who's a member). It's that pin that tells the cops at the metal detector that she's a member of Congress and not a walking human bomb.

Anyway, the cop, not recognizing her and she's not wearing her pin, yells after her "ma'am, ma'am" - McKinney just keeps on going. So he runs up to her and grabs her with his arm (not an unreasonable thing to do, considering). She turns around and slugs him in the chest. And now she's crying racism and sexism, he attacked her - oh, I'm sorry, the phrase she's using is that he "touched her inappropriately" - gee, let's make it sound like he raped her or something - anyway, yes, the brutal police man attacked her simply because she's black, a woman and he hates her politics, and now she's going to file charges against him, maybe.

Give me a frigging break. The cop ought to file charges against her.

1. Why are you feeding this propaganda? The whole thing is overblown
Rep. McKinney was the only one in Congress who came out early and questioned Bush-Cheney's claim -- subsequently shown to be a lie -- that "there was no way the White House could have known" that al-Qaeda was about to hijack aircraft and attack NY and DC on 9/11. She paid a big political price for that, but is back, serving her constituents, and the American people.

Okay, she got pissed off and hit a cop. That was a bad move, and she may deservedly be charged for it. But, please don't post this "nutso, etc, etc." crap here about her. It belongs at Freeperville, and I don't care if you're just repeating what some confused pissant said on his Blog.

Geez. :eyes:

Contrary to popular opinion, the Palestinians are the luckiest SOBs on earth. Why? Because if they were intentionally murdering civilians in any country other than Israel, they'd have been annihilated a long time ago.

~snip~

I'm all for the song about why we should pity them, and that's great - they've had been treated badly, as have the Jews for over 3,000 years.

~snip~

It's time for the Arab governments and their European lapdogs to put up or shut up.

4. McKinney's problems w/AIPAC go back to the mid-1990s
Edited on Sat Apr-01-06 06:40 AM by leveymg
From what I can reconstruct, Cynthia's father, Billy, received significant Jewish support when he was a GA state legislator, but she has tried to steer a more independent course for herself. This reflects a shift within the Atlanta Jewish community which has undergone a radically rightward shift -- a move that was being pushed by AIPAC -- which also strained the traditional Black-Jewish alliance within the Georgia Democratic Party. http://www.atljewishtimes.com/archives/1999/110599cs.htm

McKinney has been on the AIPAC hit list ever since, and much of the current tempest in a teapot over the guard incident is being driven by the same forces.

5. Aside from my own posts, this is only the third time that I have ever seen
then unbelievably courageous Congresswoman McKinney mentioned. Go to her House Representative site. She is under attack by the BFEE threats and states on her site that she came home to her house having been "toilet papered" with video tape and that someone wanted her to know they knew where she lived. A Daily Kos poster said months ago that she saw part of a Black Caucus meeting on C-SPAN, they cut away, but she was so impressed she called members of the Black Caucus to thank them and said that the admin staff was very upset, that the members of the caucus were receiving horrible threats for their stands against the criminal bush regime and the Kossack asked for people to call members of the Black Caucus to thank them because they were under a horrible psyops attack and she had been told by the staff persons that very few people had called with support.

Someone quoted Feingold's office as saying that he had received very few calls of support when the DU poster had asked the staffer.

If we don't support our Congresspersons who are risking an incredible amount by standing up to these goons, then why should they stand up for us. These are not normal times and a Congressperson who tried to do their job is endangered and there is no one they can go to. By showing our support, we offer them as well as whistleblowers a measure of protection. Please leave a message on Cynthia McKinney's blog thanking her for being the first to question the 911 fiction, the only Democrat at the Katina Hearings because she felt it was important for the Katrina victims to have a chance to tell their stories to America and did not join the Democratic boycott of the Katrina Hearings which showed the odious Christopher Shays calling the victims liars and browbeating the victims who testified, not knowing where they were going to spend the night.

6. Please send Senator Russ Feingold and email thanking him for his stunning
courageous stand against this monstrous machine. There is too much on Helen Thomas. She is a great journalist and deserved the flowers but with Feingold's historic and lonely stand to protect our basic legal rights today, his name and photo should be all over the DU front page. If dems don't stand up, this lack of support when a public servant in office does the right thing against these nazis, we ignore them??

Please go to Russ Feingold's excellent article on the front page of Smirking Chimp and add your comment and thanks. There are only 27 comments since yesterday morning and please sign up at Russ For President even if you haven't decided and read the excellent material on Russ stand for Censure alone and leave a comment there thanking him.

Sen. Russell Feingold: 'Myth vs. Reality on Bush's warrantless wiretapping program:
A fact check on a presidential crime'

Where is the grassroots support for Russ Feingold after standing alonePosted on Friday, March 31 @ 10:15:19 EST

Sen. Russell Feingold

Myth: Congress needs to hold hearings on the NSA wiretapping program before a measure like censure is discussed.

Fact: The Senate Judiciary Committee has held multiple hearings on the issue despite the refusal of the administration to cooperate. Further hearings and investigation are necessary but those hearings will not change the fact that the President broke the law...

http://socalfeingold.blogspot.com/2006/03/dear-senate-dems-are-you-listening.html

If you are feeling upset about the Democratic Senate's utter betrayal of the American people and their responsibilities as Senators today and for the past 5 years, imagine how Russ must feel, esp. when not only is "colleagues" in the Senate not fit to kiss his shoe went into hiding but the fact that DUers are also missing in action. If you can't get out into the streets to protest, at least send an email thanking Russ and add a comment or two on one of these sites to show your public support for someone who did put his body against the machine to try to stop this nazi insanity.

I sent him an e-mail yesterday. You might also consider sending one to Pat Leahy whose appearance and support of Feingold seem to be pretty much ignored.

10. Stand up and speak out for Feingold against this Swiftboating
Republicans release New Ad that Mischaracterizes Feingold's Censure ResolutionFactCheck.org states, "A GOP radio ad falsely characterizes Sen. Feingold's censure resolution as reprimanding the President for pursuing Al Qaeda"

The nonpartisan, nonprofit, voter advocacy group FactCheck.org has revealed several falacies in a new Republican advertisement that takes aim at Senator Feingold and his resolution to censure President Bush for the illegal wire tapping of American Citizens.

FactCheck.org monitors the factual accuracy of what is said by major U.S. political players in the form of TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews, and news releases. Their goal is to apply the best practices of both journalism and scholarship, and to increase public knowledge and understanding.

The GOP radio ad accuses Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold of Wisconsin of proposing to censure President Bush "for pursuing suspected members of al Qaeda," which isn't true. Feingold has stated he supports wiretapping suspected terrorists. His measure would censure Bush for ordering wiretaps on US soil without a court warrant, for failing to notify all members of the Senate and House intelligence committees, and for "efforts to mislead the American people" about the legality of the program.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) released the radio advertisement on March 21. The RNC would not disclose how much they spent on the ad, but an RNC spokesperson said the advertisement is scheduled to run for a week on Wisconsin radio stations.

The ad characterizes President Bush as "working to keep American families safe," while accusing Sen. Feingold of leading Democrats who are "working against . . . efforts to secure our country." The ad claims that "Feingold and other Democrats want to censure the President. Publicly reprimanding President Bush for pursuing suspected members of al Qaeda." That is a false characterization.

You can read the complete analysis of the ad, the copy of the ad itself and the respective references at the following FactCheck.org page:

11. Thank you leveymg. I feel so bad when I see how little support
the members of Congress who do stand up at great risk get even on liberal blogs. These are very strange, bizarro times and just doing your job as Feingold tried to emphasize in his opening speech on the shamefully boycotted by democratic senators Censure Hearings, is an act of great courage as you can see by the fact that even Kennedy was missing in action as were Boxer:+, Harkin:+ who had stated on his website that he supported censure just a few days ago and Kerry:+:+ who supposedly was in favor of censure, though only let it be known through his staff, did not make any speeches himself and was in hiding with the rest of the Dinos while Feingold was going it alone.

Hillary:+:+:+ is a useless waste of space in the senate as usual.x(

18. Thank you Trevelyan
Feingold and the black caucus are the last thread of our tattered democracy, these are truly frightening times. It escapes me how many people don't even realize this at DU. We are literally at the bottom of 9th inning and people are just hoping for November replacements but not even cheering for the team on the field in a manner that they can hear it.

14. I didn't read the whole article
But agree with Symbolman after reading the other stuff in this thread. Americablog has fallen from grace in my mind and is going to the sh*t list.

I just listened to c-spn on the Cynthia McKinnney incident and it really appears to me a right wing smear campaign. One righty thought she looked like a crack whore and another, a black woman thought Cynthia was racist, but she loved Condolesa Rice.

Dubco will attempt to take anyone down that gets in the way.
God bless Cynthia and Russ Feingold and the Black Caucus. These people are the only ones standing up for the opposition.

when I read americablog and heard the OUTRAGEOUS
name-calling of Cynthia McKinne by John Aravosis.
... and this was from a "liberal" blog --
I'm still shaking my head in disgust. I have
ALWAYS been a big fan of Cynthia and was totally
aghast at reading the outrageous comments by Aravosis.
Sure, I suppose he's entitled to his opinion.. just as
Rush Lintball, Sean Insanity and O'Liely are... but
I hope Aravosis enjoys the company he's keeping!
I'm sure he makes the Republicans proud.
