Campaign contributions

My Church recently received a shameless "pro family values" letter from a GOP congressmen in an adjacent district. The purpose of the letter was to solicit campaign contributions and was littered with family values language. Am I correct to assume that a Church cannot make a contribution to a political campaign? I can't beleive I'm even asking this as I thought I understood campaign finance laws, but I'm second guessing myself after reading this letter, which is clearly asking for money.

I'm going to return the "Enclosed is my personal check of" form blank with a letter taking this clown to task. Anything else I should do?

1. Hi, PaDem. Maybe do what you plan, and add on the bottom that

you will send an actual check of a generous sum to the blue candidate in that race, and that in the future, you'd appreciate it if the Church did not meddle with congregants' constitutional right to do their own thinking.

That's a partisan shot at the GOP, but that's the ornery mood I'm in this morning!
