Who is Henry ROLLINS - on Faux, blasted Faux to Hades -- sweet!!1
Edited on Sat Apr-01-06 11:11 AM by UTUSN
Flipping through Faux & Friends, there was this rough looking dude in a t-shirt with tattoos on his forearms telling the Faux blonde bimbette how he had toured a dozen or more countries for USO, how the wounded G.I.s in the hospitals were only 20 something but their first life adventure wasn't Mardi Gras but rather having their friend killed. O.K., fine. Then I expected him to go into some rah-rah Shrub loving rant.

So the bimbette said, without much segue, "Let's talk about your t.v. show." In the background there had been this dude with Oliver STONE and I had assumed he had been ranting against Oliver on his show. To my surprise, this dude then said, "No! No! I don't want Faux viewers looking at my show! They would send me hate mail and death threats! No Faux viewers!"

The bimbette laughed and gave the channel and time, which I didn't make out. Cool dude!

1. Black Flag, Henry Rollins Band, now a freelance cultural commentator.
Good article in the NYTimes Sunday Magazine on his going with the USO to Iraq and being entirely anti Bush and anti war, and connecting with the troops.

First, Jill Carroll, now Henry Rollins---are Keith Olberman and Patrick Fitzgerald jealous? Even Helen Thomas is getting cow eyes.

39. Oh, we DUers are quite capable of being lovesick for our heroes...
Mash notes, floral tributes, poetry reading...why I've gotten so giddy my eyes are rattling in my head like a Pachinko machine. Then, someone had to go and mention Henry Rollins. Sigh. Good thing nobody can see the shrine in the form of a torn-out magazine photo with a red heart drawn in lipstick on my refrigerator. I'd just die.

7. A quick google
The 45-year-old’s career has morphed from singer in punk rock band Black Flag to outspoken writer, publisher, actor and host of “The Henry Rollins Show” which debuts its second season on U.S. cable TV network The Independent Film Channel Saturday.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Memphis_3

"Under the direction of Henry Rollins, various hip-hop, heavy metal, punk, and other musicians came together to record Rise Above, a collection of cover songs originally performed by Black Flag. All profits from the record and the supporting tour were donated to the suspects' defense funds."-snip-

I met him at a friends BBQ in Hollywood around 1992. He was friendly and courteous but a little quiet. It was probably about a year after his friend was murdered, that would make anyone quiet.

20. I Met All These Guys in the D.C. Music Scene
back in the 80s, they were actually nice people. You'd think the "punk" scene wouldn't be but all the bands I ever met and/or did gigs with were exceptionally decent people. D.C. has always been a stuffy, conservative, boring, mundane, confining town so anyone who resists that usually turns out to be pretty cool.

22. Saw him with Black Flag at the Antenna Club in Memphis. Awesome show!
I was fortunate enough to hit my late teens in the early-80s when American punk was really rolling. Also, it helped to live in Memphis where the Antenna Club was open for business. It was a Southern stopping point for just about any punk band at the time. Black Flag, Decendents, Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys, Suicidal Tendencies, Husker Du, etc.

Rollins has one of the thickest necks I have ever seen. He has a very formidable presence...

28. Lyrics
Liar Lyrics

you think you're gonna to live your life alone
in darkness
and seclusion
yeah I know
you've been out there
tried to mix with those animals
and it just left you full of humiliated confusion
so you stagger back home
and wait for nothing
but the solitary refinement of your room spits you back out onto the street
and now you're desperate
and in need of human contact
and then
you meet me
and you whole world changes
because everything I say is everything you've ever wanted to hear
so you drop all your defenses and you drop all your fears
and you trust me completely
I'm perfect
in every way
cause I make you feel so strong and so powerful inside
you feel so lucky
but your ego obscures reality
and you never bother to wonder why
things are going so well
you wanna know why?
cause I'm a liar
yeah I'm a liar
I'll tear your mind out
I'll burn your soul
I'll turn you into me
I'll turn you into me
cause I'm a liar, a liar
a liar, a liar

I'll hide behind a smile
and understanding eyes
and I'll tell you things that you already know
so you can say
I really identify with you, so much
and all the time that you're needing me
is just the time that I'm bleeding you
don't you get it yet?
I'll come to you like an affliction
and I'll leave you like an addiction
you'll never forget me
you wanna know why?
cause I'm a liar
yeah I'm a liar
I'll rip your mind out
I'll burn your soul
I'll turn you into me
I'll turn you into me
cause I'm a liar, a liar
liar, liar, liar, liar

I don't know why I feel the need to lie
and cause you so much pain
maybe it's something inside
maybe it's something I can't explain
cause all I do
is mess you up and lie to you
I'm a liar
oh, I am a liar

if you'll give me one more chance
I swear that I will never lie to you again
because now I see the destructive power of a lie
they're stronger than truth
I can't believe I ever hurt you
I swear
I will never to you lie again, please
just give me one more chance
I will never lie to you again
I swear
that I will never tell a lie
I will never tell a lie
no, no
ha ha ha ha ha hah haa haa haa haaa
sucker
sucker!
oh, sucker
I am a liar
yeah, I am a liar
yeah I like it
I feel good
ohh I am a liar
yeah
I lie
I lie
I lie
oh, I lie
oh I lie
I lie
yeah
ohhh I'm a liar
I lie
yeah
I like it
I feel good
I'll lie again
and again
I'll lie again and again
and I'll keep lying
I promise

Edited on Sat Apr-01-06 11:04 PM by Marie26
He's the frontman for the Henry Rollins Band, a heavy metal group, & he also does spoken-word albums. He looks like a typical body-building dunce until he starts talking & you realize he really, really knows his stuff. He's super-smart; though I'm not a huge fan of his music.

What is also hilarious is his occasional bit part appearance in movies as a cop.
