Suggestion: drop the Rovian Immigrant bait immediately and
return to the issue AFTER the nov. elections.

Rove has already openly stated they intend to use immigration as a wedge issue against us...

SO WHY THE HECK ARE WE FALLING FOR IT SO EASILY?

that's it. ...move along nothing to see here.

3. Yup. Reasonable progressives can disagree on this issue
Let's say your state creates a great social safety net including nice health insurance. At some point you've got to be able to close your borders or you'll get swamped from those in the outside wanting in from other states or other countries and then won't be able to provide the really good safety net for anyone (imagine one lifeboat, but too many people want in)

The right to interstate travel/relocation, found nowhere in the text of the constitution and yet supported by conservatives, prevents states from truly being bold and makes them conform.

5. Nope
This issue is riling those of us who live near the border. This issue is riling up the kids. This issue is moving the Hispanic vote back into the D column.

This issue has blown up in Roves face. The wedge is between racists and cheap labor advocates. You can be racist and a cheap labor advocate, but cheap labor requires the presense of illegal immigrants.

Nothing - nothing - is gonna fix this thing, ever.

10. do with "culture of corruption" and the WAR what GOP does with 9/11--
get back to it in the fewest steps possible.

For example,"Immigration is a serious issue that needs our attention but can we afford to let the most corrupt and destructive President and Congress in our history do to immigration policy what they have done to budget deficits, New Orleans, and Iraq? We can't afford one more law that rewards cronies, inflames racism and division, and destroys our middle class, as everything the Bushies does is designed to do."
