The "War on Terror" is BULLSHIT! This is not a war.
Edited on Sat Apr-01-06 03:39 PM by reprobate

Dictionary says war= "A state of open, armed, often prolonged conflict carried on between nations, states, or parties."

Will someone please tell me what "Nation, state of party" we are supposed to be at war with?

Terrorism is not a nation, state, or party. It is a tactic. A war on terror is the same as a war on amphibious landings. Neither statement makes any sense.

But, like the "War on Drugs", it has resulted in a few people getting very wealthy. I give you the prison-industrial complex. We are five percent of the world's population, and we have twenty five percent of the world's prisoners. Mostly for non violent crimes.

There IS a way to not necessarily end, but make it much more difficult for those who participate in the use of violence against innocents to succeed. But it doesn't involve massive payments to crony corporations, so it won't be used. You can't end violence with more violence. The only way to stop the crazies is thru intelligence. The intelligent use of intelligence (sorry, couldn't help it). You have to have a central coordination organization, (like Interpol?)to compile and distribute the fruits of all the nations gathering information on terrorists.

Then you offer a large reward for information leading to the capture of those who would use violence. You make turning them in the equivalent of saving lives, you create heroes.

But first, you change the frame of the argument. Make it positive. None of this "The war on terrorism will go on for generations." That's just negative and tells me that you don't want to succeed and you have no goal. Replace it with something like: "In five years, with the cooperation of all the free nations on this planet and the help of all those who oppose violence, we will make the taking of innocent lives for political gain so difficult that few would even think about it, much less try it."

That would gain the help of the whole world for a goal that is attainable, and would once again make this nation admired by the rest of civilization. Just like invading Iraq did (dripping sarcasm here.)

1. Excellent post.

I plan on stealing this, if you don't mind:

A war on terror is the same as a war on amphibious landings.

LOL! Funny, but incisively true.

And this is an important point, too, IMO:

None of this "The war on terrorism will go on for generations." That's just negative and tells me that... you have no goal.

A very sobering way to put it.

2. It makes me nauseous when Bush claims extra powers as a war-
time president; we are not at war. The Congress did not declare war. Bush is an incompetent idiot with his finger on the trigger.

4. And that's the scariest thing of all.
Because the barrel of the gun, the target of the bomb, is us. It is the United States of America, and every good thing she stands for.

5. Bush is the little dictator who likes to play army by invading
defenseless countries. It makes him feel like he is a macho war hero who then gets to stuff socks into his crotch, fly onto an aircrat carrier, and strut around like a peacock.

He is nothing but a chickenshit chickenhawk.

but they changed the legal definition to- Global Struggle Against Violent Extremists (GSAVE) back in 2003, for legal purposes.

Wouldn't want anyone to know it's just a Police Action...people might get upset.

Kinda blows their whole wiretapping defense out of the water too.

7. It's a war on Terra or Gaia or EVERYONE but the BFEE.
What it is is a war to secure a limited number of people as a ruling clique immune from law or restriction. What they want to rule is the ENTIRE WORLD including nature and all her fruits.

Look at who their biggest ally is...Saudi Arabia. A nation with a truly deplorable human rights record. Likewise, Dubai, Columbia, Indonesia, Pakistan and a stable of third world dictatorships. They are truly at war. What we fail to acknowledge is that a large percentage of U.S. citizens are included among those that they are at war with.

8. bush*s war of terror is victorious!!
bush* has waged a war of terror upon the world and it looks as though he is winning. No one with a national voice is willing to point out the obvious; elected officials do not want to look weak and the press/media want to keep their jobs.

We need to push this into the national thought process--what little remains.

13. Good post. It isn't a war...
...and * is not a wartime president.

I don't fear terrorism - I never have. I view it in much the same way I view tornadoes and car wrecks... life has risks. One more risk added to the pile isn't something that keeps me up at night.

But I do fear the economic slavery and grinding poverty that our current fascist/corporatism government has planned for us. Our founding fathers feared it too. And thousands died in REAL wars to save us from it.

14. True. If "the other side(s)" got no tanks, no destroyers, no
airplanes, no radars, no army, and (therefore) no credible plans to successfully invade any nation, there simply ain't no war going on.

There are a few gangsters to arrest and to bring to justice, but that is Interpol's job.

http://www.interpol.int

Their job should include all gangsters in the PNAC also.

But what can we do to get this across to the public? This is not a very popular fact to bring up, especially in the red states.
