I just saw Cynthia McKinney at an antiwar march and rally in Atlanta
And no matter how this fuss with the police officer ends, one thing is for sure:

SHE'S STILL GOT IT.

Immediately after her speech a lot of local news people crowded her, wanting to ask about different things. She ignored them.

The spirit of our great antiwar march from the King Center was summed up perfectly by her and Reverend Lowery and others who spoke.

So make this cop-tussle a non-story real quick, because it doesn't really matter.

7. Unfortunately I Did, And It Helped Me Make Up My Mind That She Was Wrong.
Not horribly wrong, it isn't the end of the world, and really is quite a petty story to begin with, but I am on the side now (because of that very link) that she acted impulsively and with bad judgment because she was in a rush and frustrated. She freely admits to physically touching the officer and the fact is under that circumstance it was a no no, period.

As I said though, not really a big deal in the end of it all anyway. But now that I have it from her own mouth, at least I know the truth is that she did in fact strike him in some way, regardless of how minor. Last I knew, ya really weren't allowed to do that to cops.

13. I'm sorry, TOUCHING and STRIKING are two entirely different things, and
it is troubling that people are having difficulty distinguishing between the two. If I touch you on the arm, or move your arm away from me (because I don't like physical contact with strangers) that is a far different thing than if I swing my 15-lb purse at your midsection.

14. And in the article it says she used her arm.
Doesn't sound like a touch, sounds more to me like a forearm strike. Who the hell knows.

16. may i ask some fellows on this board go to womens self defence
Edited on Sun Apr-02-06 01:31 PM by flyarm
web sites and see how women are taught to act in self defence..also security for women of agressive people who come near ones body..

women are taught in many security classes to use the elbow..the forearm..to push away from anyone who touches her person...

this is serious..i see many men on this board who are just not getting how many of us women have been trained and socialized today for self protection..it becomes an instinct to protect oneself...i guess in todays day..men are still unaware of the security techniques women are being taught in security classes and self protection classes.,..of anyone who is agressive to us..

to say other wise is leaving women vunerable..

we are also taught in security classes to not trust anyone in uniform as many uniforms are stolen and we leave ourselves vunerable to death if we ignore these facts..

women most of the time have a couple seconds to decide how to protect themselves...

then put yourself in Mckinneys shoes...

she showed her ID...she was on the phone ..did she know that someone was calling out to her ..or someone else in a noisey area?? someone grabbed her arm from behind..do any of us know if she thought she was vunerable to that grab..hell no none of us know that answer..
do we know if this congresswoman has been through security classes to protect her self?? hell no we do not..

please people wait until the investigation is over to find out what thereal facts are...

its not right or fair otherwise..

and gentlemen ..please look at this site and scroll to the bottom and see what the woman is doing in the lower left hand corner picture.

2. About 4,000...
...according to the march organizers and hundreds according to local news.

It was fantastic! Faith, Labor, LGBT, Grassroots, Issue Advocacy were all represented. I was there doing a Voter Registration drive and got a couple dozen new registrations. These coalition events are essential if we hope to build a progressive community and affect change.

Highlights: Reverend Tim McDonald & Reverend Joseph Lowery. Poet (an organizer of the 2007 US Social Forum) Alice Lovelace. And, of course, Representative McKinney.

It was a great day in Atlanta! A great day for progressives.

12. Yes, Malloy was there
He spoke for a few minutes. He had his daughter on stage with him. He did a bit about April Fools Day and got everyone laughing. He's always good - passionate - articulate - and funny. I honestly don't recall the sequence of speakers so I don't know if he came before or after Representative McKinney.
