Rep. McKinney: one of the Heroes who fought Electoral Fraud on our behalf
Could we perhaps take a breath, find the most accurate version of events (post here please!), give her the benefit of the doubt, CONSIDER OUR PRIORITIES and not judge her (so quickly)?

The main question seems to be HOW she was stopped and the manner in which she was treated.

Here at DU, let's afford her the dignity she was denied in the halls of Congress.

2. Rep McKinney also spoke & marched with us Sept 24th in DC
She has been an unrelenting voice of the people. The rush to judgement about what happened only feeds into the rw smear campaign to silence anyone with the tenacity to speak out.

Is it really asking too much for folks to wait with their negative comments until all of the facts are known??

a post along these lines, but couldn't find the words

thank you

they tried to kill her career for what she did regarding 911, and she started very soon afterwards, not buying the BS

like Feingold, she was one of the very few to stand up in the Goering-like fearmongering that's characterized this regime, from the MOMENT the allowed this catastrophe to happen.

they knew something was up, at the very least, and did LESS than nothing to stop it.

ask Greg Jones

ask Coleen Rowley

ask the Minn. congressman who tried to get the FBI to act

just for starters

EDIT for quote:

"Why, of course, the people don't want war," Goering shrugged. "Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece. Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship."

Thank YOU for the thread.

I found what I thought was a solid quote from McKinney on important info (not 9-11), brought it here and later found out it was linked to the "wrong" type of site.

It's too bad that that those doing the right thing are marginalized, eh?

According to the Capitol Police, read this quote from the Washington Post:

The unidentified officer wants to press assault charges against McKinney, who allegedly poked him with her cellphone Wednesday morning as she tried to bypass a metal detector while walking into a House office building, said Capitol Police sources familiar with the incident.

(source: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/31/AR2006033101889.html)

46. There is something not being mentioned here and that is
When you touch someone, either a tap on the shoulder to a kick to the stomach (of course everything in between) and they did not want to be touched, this is Assault, nothing more nothing less, Assault. Even policeman cannot come up to person grab them (although they do from time to time)this is still assault. Thus, the police admit to grabbing her arm first, assault!

reacted or whether or not she had her pin or badge, but why the security systems in the halls of congress are so pathetic in these post 9/11, terraist at ever corner, times.

There are tons of security devices available that would do away with the need for id or pins that could be forged. Face recognition is a requirement because pins and badges can be forged.

Cynthia McKinney is one of the bravest members of congress serving today. She speaks up and she speaks the truth, she doesn't just spout the party line. I will give her the benefit of the doubt ever time, especially since our justice system mandates that a person is "innocent until proven guilty".

"...reacted or whether or not she had her pin or badge, but why the security systems in the halls of congress are so pathetic in these post 9/11, terraist at ever corner, times."

Looking at threads full of opinions without having much info on the story, I wondered if the "these post 9/11, terraist at ever corner, times" affected how the guard (over?)reacted.

Willverine  Pitt told of his experience with how lax security is on the Hill. Maybe some guards balance underreacting with overreacting?

23. She is young, black and pretty. Capatol Hill cops are supposed
to be able to recognize every member of Congress -- all 535 of them.

Granted there are a lot of pastey-faced older white males, which make it a bit difficult at times not to miss one now and again. I know, because I worked there thirty years ago. But Cynthia McKinney would be recognized by almost anyone on the hill, not just whose job requires them to do so.

Something smells on Capitol Hill, and it's not the bean soup.

25. Oh, I agree.
Especially given the fact that she has had a history with the Capitol Hill police not recognizing her and has had to lodge complaints on this issue.

Especially given the fact that she is so outspoken and well known because she is so outspoken. If I am not mistaken, she has received many threats and travels with body guards, one would think that she and her entourage are very recognizable.

The failings of the security and the Capitol Police are the issues. We have the right to demand better security, this administration has promised us better security.

And just like opposing the war does not mean I am anti-troop, demanding that our law enforcers follow the rules and the laws does not equate to being anti-cop.

AND not supporting them when they're not?!!!!

Folks don't spend much time asking-- what are Dems threatened with if they do speak out-- this is a very small example.

Perhaps it's easier to criticize others' character and courage than to show our own.

I remember a quote from a member of the CBC about how and why they do what they do. She said that they have the experience from the civil rights movement and they know what it takes, they know how to do it.

33. Read this comment at another site this morning (think it was Huff Po)
and thought it was appropriate -

The reichwing wants to crucify a Congress woman for pushing a Capital policeman but give a pass to a sitting Vice President who shoots a man in the face.

Let the facts come out, view the video tape, if she acted inappropriate then slap her wrist and move on - no harm, no foul, IMHO but to excuse shooting someone as "harmless" and getting your panties in a wad over a shoving match just shows the height of hypocrisy that we are dealing with today.

41. Ah- the calm voice of reason among the political dilettantes.
You, my friend, like Rep. McKinney are ahead of the curve which is a lonely sepulcher-(just ask poor Tom Paine). What this distasteful episode has exposed is precisely why the corporate/military/infotainment complex has been able to destroy a civil rights movement that was on the verge of transforming the facade into actual liberty. By surrendering our autonomy for the chimera of perfect safety ("the oceans no longer protect us" right, tell it to the British) we have trashed our Bill of Rights and handed our treasure to the warlords. In short, we have been wooed to choose security over dignity. But where there is no dignity there will be no justice, and where there is no justice there cannot long be peace.

43. Common sense not so common? lol
Always so nice to see you, brindia_desala. Very well said-- every bit. And this!! stands alone:

"But where there is no dignity there will be no justice, and where there is no justice there cannot long be peace."

Another aspect revealed by this indignity/spinfest/diversion is how crucial it is that the Democrats or progressives or liberals or whoever we are... how crucial it is to take a long hard look at bigotry (of all kinds) and decide as a party/movement/subculture to refute it-- to restore human dignity. To disassociate from prejudice for all the right reasons-- they are legion. Respecting others is respecting ourselves-- we have lost that knowledge along with the commons. So goes Democracy.

"By surrendering our autonomy for the chimera of perfect safety ("the oceans no longer protect us" right, tell it to the British) we have trashed our Bill of Rights and handed our treasure to the warlords."

All during the 90's we were "wooed to choose security over dignity." Now, we have a conlict of entitlement-- between a Congress member who retains her autonomy and dignity and feels entitled to go to her job and security official who feels entitled to accost her while trying to do his.
