The difference between Christian fundamentalist and Islamic jihadists?
Islamic jihadists blow themselves up, Christian fundamentalists get other people to blow themselves up for them.

1. The only difference is in their methods.
Both groups suffer from the same demented notion that because they believe in their respective religious tomes, they have the duty to force the rest of us to at least pretend to believe in them too.

2. "get other people to blow themselves up for them"
Isn't that what the people who recruit and train suicide bombers do?

5. Not equivalent
Christian fundamentalists are annoying but not nearly as bad as Islamic ones. Anyone who needs this pointed out to them is clueless.

12. Let Us Say We Disagree
Let us say that SOME fundamentalists don't act like the Christians you expect them to be.

There are fundies that vote for Democrats too.

I am not a fundie.

I am a Christian.

I do not see the usefulness of bashing Christians, fundies or otherwise, by comparing them to "Islamic Jihadists"

grow up

20. Show me exactly where I "bashed" Christians.
Your post was ill conceived. I think you have an identity crisis.

21. You Compared Fundamentalist Christians
to Islamic Jihadists

that is a broad brush stereotype

most Christian fundamentalists are just regular people who happen to belong to fundamentalist Churches.

There are those within those Churches that abuse the perceived power they have over fundamentalist members of Churches.

but your OP did in fact compare the two, as being somehow equivalent.

Now to say Christian fundamentalists are similar to Muslim fundamentalists would be a different comparison. But you said Jihadists, which isn't fair to a large number of people who just happen to belong to Christian fundamentalist Churches

as for "identity crises", perhaps you should look in the mirror

24. Jihadists, May Be Fundamentalists, But They Are Fighting A
Holy war, or Jihad

Christian fundamentalists for the most part are just trying to get by in life, like everyone else.

There are some vocal ones that espouse just about everything under the sun.

There are some that have blown things up (Eric Rudolph)

But that is not the mission of fundamentalists of any religion. (can't believe I'm defending fundamentalists because I'm not one and really can't stand that the way they think about Christianity either)

25. We have a President who is a self described Christian fundamentalist.
Edited on Sat Apr-01-06 10:45 PM by Jara sang
We are fighting a war against "radical Islamic fundamentalism"(the Bush administration's words, not mine) I stand by my original description. These Christian fundamentalists got Bush into office, they adore him. Are they in Iraq fighting? Perhaps a very small few, but most are back here churning up their hatred of all Muslims. Most Muslims are regular ordinary people, like you said that most Christians are regular ordinary people. How many of Christian fundamentalists would blow themselves up for what they believe in? Zero. But they are more than willing to let young women and men go to Iraq to fight the "terrorists" and by terrorist they mean all Muslims.

27. Neocons are not Christian--or other--fundamentalists.
Strauss was an atheist who taught that religion was useful as a means of social control but not something the ruling class should bother with for themselves.

but understand that it isn't correct, and it is offensive to any one that might be a Christian fundamentalist and a Democrat

31. Islamophobia and Jihadism
are just two sides of the same coin.

The Neocons keep their base riled up and angry at the muslims so they'll support war against the boogeyman du jour
(freepers aren't very good at geography so don't notice that at the same time Bushco are happily doing business with all the ME monarchies).

The elites in the ME let their unemployed youth get angry at the Jews and Americans, so they'll go off somewhere else and fight.

13. It depends on what one's fundamentals are
and whether they are good or bad that mark a fundamentalist out as dangerous or not. A fundie is not a fundie.

29. Speaking as a former fundamentalist christian
There is no such thing as a good fundie. The best you can hope for is a well-meaning but severely brainwashed fundie who will cause harm because she has been taught to do so...but sooner or later you're responsible for thinking for yourself.

11. Christians and Christian Fundamentalists are two different entities.
And the fundies are just as bad as muslim fundies, if not worse. At least the muslim fundies are up front about their violent hate.

for the same goal, and are just as dangerous. Christian fundamentalists are far more than merely annoying. Note the word "fundamentalists", I'm not saying all Christians are like this. I also don't believe all Muslims are represented by their fundamentalist brethren.

16. Do the Crusades ring a bell? How about the Inquisition?....
...Just how much divides the current Christian Fundamentalists from their hardcore ancestors?

We have Christian Fundamentalists giving the orders to kill Afghan and Iraqi civilians to the tune of 40,000 and 100,000 respectively.

We have Christian Fundamentalists giving the orders to plan for the attacks on Iran and Syria?

Not much difference, IMHO.
