Someone explain this Cartoon to me: BR5-49

The BR5-49 is some reference to Hee Haw from what I can recall. Why is it on his shirt?

Yes, I watched Hee Haw. I was young then.

I suppose the cartoon is equating Abramoff with a slimey used car salesman. I feel it is an attempt to improve his image.

He was a fat, overall wearing redneck who allegedly sold used cars. There was a time in rural America when only 5 phone numbers were used to call locally.

Since Buck Owens died last week, one of the stars of Hee Haw, I'm sure the cartoonist was merely using those numbers as a wink to those who would understand it.

I think this explains it more fully. I knew it somehow connected to Hee Haw, because I can remember those numbers, but couldn't remember the sketch very well

There was a time in 1970s when I used to say you could see Hee Haw on at a least one cable channel any time, night or day, in East Texas. I mean, it was always on, and repeated a lot.

I used to like the part where the two guys would say >>>

Seems there was one of Hugh Hefner's old girlfriends on there too.

14. That was also one of my favorite parts.

I didn't care for about half the show or more, but it had some funny segments. Really, it was country version of LAUGH IN, with Rowan and Martin.
