According to http://www.spychips.com/newsletters/news-2004-1119.html, passwords will soon have rfid chips. I wonder if those can be neutralized. I also wonder how you know for sure that the thing is toast.

5. Well, they have RFID readers-I don't know if they are standardized

at this point, or if individual companies have their own variations on chips and readers, but it seems to me that once/if they are universal, and IF the price isn't prohibitive, you could get a portable reader to go around and do a sweep of your house and products.
