Republican reaction to "Support the troops bring them home" button today

I did a stint today at a local community business job fair where the Dems set up a table, as did the Reps-and our two tables were side by side, both festooned with patriotic flag looking symbolism-heh. Aside from one snotty woman manning the Republican table who asked a cohort "You're TALKING to a Democrat?", everyone was friendly regardless of their political persuasion. The military was also there with a table; I had counter-recruitment materials and buttons on the table by me. Got an interesting reaction from a staunch Republican woman who came up to the table and wanted a "Support the Troops, Bring them home" button, to which I said of course, and that I thought the war was bad from the start. She said she thought the war had been right to do, but it was unnecessary and long past time to bring troops home. So, while we didn't agree about whether it was proper in the first place, if she is representative of Republicans in a small Texas town, even Republicans want Iraq war to end.

4. Good story

We had the opposite. We're on the street protesting the war and our senator's support of it (Hillary Clinton) and a mother of a serviceman (2 tours) comes up to us in the street unannounced--and rips us up and down. "What you're doing is a travesty!" etc. Media picks this up in all stories. It shook me for a few days, I couldn't get past it, until a friend from Vets for Peace said, "Treat her with sympathy and kindness next time, she's in great pain. Tell her that you do understand what she must be feeling." I wondered why I hadn't thought of that myself, and it took someone else to gently tell me--lesson learned! The test of how peaceful one truly is.

5. What is sad is how their mind changes when

someone they know doesn't make it home from Iraq.

Horrible story, heartbreaking story from a R friend whose nephew got killed.
All of the sudden Cindy Sheehan becomes their hero.

It's too bad it has to be so painful before people wake up.

11. That is why losing the attempt at colonizing Iraq is important.

IMO the Repugs who have changed their position on Iraq have mostly done so because the US is losing. If the US had secured the region and subdued the people then they would have cheered it as a great victory and been gung-ho to have more expansionist wars.

Immoral wars are best when they are lost.
