Anyone read the Statistical Index on Iraq from the Brookings Institute

This is an absolutely fascinating document. It simply lists what is going on in Iraq by the numbers. I saw a recommendation on this on Sen. Lugar's web page and clicked through.

I think there is a lot of info in here that refutes a lot of what Bush and Cheney are saying.

Sen. Lugar tells all the Senate Foreign Relations Committee people to read this stuff.

Statistical abstracts are interesting anyway in a random sort of way. The one for Iraq does show some improvement in some areas of the country. But, there is nothing for this Admin to write home about, they are not stemming the insurgency and it most definitely is not in it's 'last throes.'

Insurgent attacks, car bombs and roadside bombs have doubled, and suicide car bombs have quadrupled.


Bush cites progress. Yes, Iraq is getting progressively worse.

I found the Iraqi poll results to be especially interesting. You can really see there the stark division between Sunnis and Shiites in terms of their opinion of the war and where they see the country headed.
