RE-LYNCHING CYNTHIA MCKINNEY
http://www.gregpalast.com/detail.cfm?artid=239&row=1

"We know there were numerous warnings of the events to come on September 11. Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, delivered one such warning. What did this Administration know, and when did it know it about the events of September 11? Who else knew and why did they not warn the innocent people of New York?"

And her infamous 'cover-up' accusation,

"I think what the administration is concerned about is that we have connected the dots. They don't want the American people to know and be able to hold accountable the people who were involved in the lead up to September 11. …I call that a cover-up."

Once again, the obvious and more plausible reading of McKinney's words -- her own explanation, which ought to count for something -- is a story of intelligence failures caused by a disastrous Administration policy of going easy on Middle East potentates who fund terror. That's a far cry from saying Bush was in on the conspiracy to attack America.

The reason I find the brouhaha over my correcting the record on McKinney so astonishing is that the complaints came in the main, NOT from defenders of the Times or NPR, but from those who do, in fact, believe that Bush DID know of, or even plan, the attack of September 11. These objectors are beside themselves with misery over losing the comfort of a kind of endorsement of their views extracted from the misreading of McKinney. From this crowd came the most vitriolic attacks – citing Saint McKinney's words despite her repeated objections.

1. McKinney simply thinks about, investigates, and takes positions on
key issues like our elections and the attacks on New York City and the Pentagon. Her views are not that outrageous if your looking at all sides of an issue. I agree with your interpretation, that McKinney is not that far out on these issues.

I do belive that she is being singled out and set up for anything and everything the WH can come up with. They're just bitter and vindictive.

Recommended.

2. Only one Congressperson demanded hearings on the matter
Another big player in the eastern Congo is Barrick Gold Corp.

headquartered in Canada. It is the world's second-largest gold producer after Anglo-American of South Africa.

The industrial enterprises that set up American Mineral Fields are interested in the contract for the construction of the orbital platform around the world that is destined to replace the Russian station MIR.

This project is part of the $60 billion so-called National Missile Defense system that George W. Bush, Sec. Of Defense Rumsfeld, Sec. of State Colin Powell, and Vice President Cheney are pushing so vigorously. Building the spacer station will require many of the rare metals found in eastern Congo.

Barrick was able in 1996 to get the Mobutu regime's Gold Office of Kilomoto, a government monopoly, to transfer mining rights over almost all its 82,000 square kilometers of land to Barrick. The land is estimated to have 100 tons of gold in reserve.

George Bush Sr. sat on the board if directors of Barrick.

http://www.minesandcommunities.org/Company/kabilal.htm

Cynthia McKinney made the mistake of pissing off the Bushes after the 1992 election:
After George Bush Senior left the White House, he became an advisor and lobbist for Canadian gold-mining company, Barrick Gold. But there were a couple of questions about Barrick, to say the least. For example, was Barrick's Congo gold mine funding both sides of a civil war and perpetuating that bloody conflict? Only one Congressperson demanded hearings on the matter.

3. War is Golden for the Bush Administration
The opening of a long-delayed civil suit in a London courtroom; a brief, buried article on a judical nomination; a fluctuation in the commodities market; three mundane, seemingly-unrelated items in the news last week that combined to give a fleeting glimpse of the ugly reality behind the frantic, diversionary facade of the "civilized world".

The Italian bank BNL was one of BCCI's main tentacles. BNL's Atlanta branch was the primary funnel used by the first Bush Administration to send millions of secret dollars to Saddam for arms purchases, including deadly chemicals and other WMD material supplied by the Chilean arms dealer Cardeon and various politically-connected operators in the US like weapons merchant Matrix Churchill.

As soon as the BNL case broke, President Bush 1 moved to throttle the investigation. He appointed lawyers from both Cardeon and Matrix to top Justice Department posts--where they supervised the officals investigating their old companies.

Which brings us to the judical appointment. One of the White House aids who unlawfully intervened in the BNL prosection was a certain factotum named Jay ByBee.Last week, said factotum was nominated by the current warmer of the Oval Office seat, George W. Bush, to a place on the federal appeals court-- a lifetime sinecure of perks and power. ByBee was confirmed on March 13,2003.

And the commodities connection? President Pretzel's relentless hissy-fit for war on Iraq has of course goosed the price of gold enormously-- and that's set Bush Family coffers a clinking. How so? In the waning days of his failed presidentcy, Bush 1 invoked an obscure 1872 statue to give Canadian firm, Barrick Corporation, the right to mine $10 billion in gold from US public lands. US taxpayers got $10,000 fee in return. Bush then joined Barrick as a highly paid "international consultant," brokering deals with various dictators of his close acquaintance. Barrick reciprocated with big bucks for Junior's presidental run. And in another quid for the pro quo, last year Junior dutifully approved Barrick's controversial aquisition of a major rival.

5. 2003 bush smear of McKinney for "looniness" Shame on Americablog.
http://www.alternet.org/story/16172

Did I mention to you that (ex-) Congresswoman McKinney is black? And not just any kind of black. She's the uppity kind of black.

What I mean by uppity is this:

After George Bush Senior left the White House, he became an advisor and lobbyist for a Canadian gold-mining company, Barrick Gold. Hey, a guy's got to work. But there were a couple of questions about Barrick, to say the least. For example, was Barrick's Congo gold mine funding both sides of a civil war and perpetuating that bloody conflict? Only one Congressperson demanded hearings on the matter.

You've guessed: Cynthia McKinney.

That was covered in the . . . well, it wasn't covered at all in the U.S. press.

McKinney contacted me at the BBC. She asked if I'd heard of Barrick. Indeed, I had. Top human rights investigators had evidence that a mine that Barrick bought in 1999 had, in clearing their Tanzanian properties three years earlier, bulldozed mine shafts . . . burying about 50 miners alive.

I certainly knew Barrick: They'd sued the Guardian for daring to run a story I'd written about the allegations of the killings. Barrick never sued an American paper for daring to run the story, because no American paper dared.
The primary source for my story, an internationally famous lawyer named Tundu Lissu, was charged by the Tanzanian police with sedition, and arrested, for calling for an investigation. McKinney has been trying to save his life with an international campaign aimed at Barrick.

That was another of her mistakes.
...
The New York Times wrote about McKinney that Atlanta's prominent Black leaders -- including Julian Bond, the chairman of the NAACP and former Mayor Maynard Jackson -- who had supported Ms. McKinney in the past -- distanced themselves from her this time.

Really? Atlanta has four internationally recognized black leaders. Martin Luther King III did not abandon McKinney. I checked with him. Nor did Julian Bond (the Times ran a rare retraction on their website at Bond's request). But that left Atlanta's two other notables: Vernon Jordan and Andrew Young. Here, the Times had it right; no question that these two black faces of the Atlanta Establishment let McKinney twist slowly in the wind -- because, the Times implied, of her alleged looniness.

But maybe there was another reason Young and Jordan let McKinney swing. Remember Barrick? George Bush's former gold-mining company, the target of McKinney's investigations? Did I mention to you that Andy Young and Vernon Jordan are both on Barrick's payroll? Well, I just did.

Did the Times mention it? I guess that wasn't fit to print

4. Excellent reference. I just went to McKinney's site to sign her guestbook
and offer words of support and saw the Palast defense of an earlier orchestrated propaganda against her telling the truth:

The Screwing of Cynthia McKinney
By Greg Palast, AlterNet. Posted June 18, 2003.

How the New York Times, NPR and others drove a U.S. congresswoman out of office based on a quote that was never uttered....

==
Back in the edit room with Mr. Washington Network TV Reporter, we were ready to bake the cake, the Gore story. We had all the ingredients.

Take out your watch, said the Fox man.

You get 90 seconds, he said. That?s what you get. You got an intro, 40 seconds of narration, two sound bites, and end with a stand-up to camera.

I repeated, ?Forty seconds narrate, two sound bites, stand-up.?

He said, Two sound bites and a stand-up. Every story. Every time.

He said, What do you think??

I said, I think I'm leaving the country.

6. Please sign McKinney' Guestbook and thank her for her real service to real
Americans.
McKinney votes against HR 4939: Republicans Seek to Confound Iraq and Katrina "The only tie that binds Iraq and Katrina is the money Halliburton will get!" March 16, 2006

The Republicans are at it again, twisting and confounding the issues, this time by making support for the hurricane survivors conditional upon support for the Administration's "long war." The Republicans have missed the boat. The critical moment to act in an effort to assist hurricane survivors is long overdue, for just yesterday, FEMA evicted the last of some 40,000 families of hurricane survivors from temporary housing assistance with no plan to transition them to more permanent housing. Throwing mothers and children out on the street while lining the pockets of the wealthiest corporations; that is how Republicans do disaster relief, and I will not condone it...
http://www.house.gov/apps/list/press/ga04_mckinney/pr_060316_hr4939.html

Congressional oversight of Pentagon contracting has steadily eroded. Instead of doing its job, the Republican Congress keeps turning a blind eye to the recurring pattern of fraud, corruption, and abuse within the military contracting system. American citizens as voters and taxpayers must say "no more." No more corruption; no more waste, fraud, and abuse. No more no-bid contracts in the Gulf Coast at the exclusion of minority-owned and small businesses. No more supplemental requests for an endless war with that helps no one but the friends of the Bush Administration. No more corporate profiteering from war and disaster. It is time to demand that government put the needs of its citizens first. I do that today.

10. and a very interesting comment about how Nancy Pelosi operates from
the article where she talks about running Jack Murtha up the flagpole to see if anyone would salute him....I guess she would run McKinney up the flagpole and see if anyone defends her :-(

I had earlier asked Pelosi why she had not initially supported the resolution to withdraw the troops from Iraq made by Rep. John Murtha, which she had praised during her speech. Her answer was a strange one:

"I never opposed Murtha. From the very first day, I said to my caucus, at the proper time, I will publicly endorse Murtha, but as long as possible I want him to be out there on his own." Like running him up on the flagpole and waiting to see if anyone saluted him.

When asked why she didn't push the Murtha position within the party, she replied, "In our caucus, when it comes to a vote of war, it is strictly a vote of conscience and constituency. It is more important for members to reach their own conclusion on Murtha rather than tell them this is the way I want them to vote. It has more legitimacy if it is something that springs from their difference and their conscience."

14. i remember this..and i also as a flight crew of one of the airlines
Edited on Sun Apr-02-06 12:09 PM by flyarm
knew Cynthia was the only congressperson asking questions that those of us with the airlines were asking..and i also watched her be demonized which made me sick..the one person who dared to ask legitimate questions was being hung out to dry...while the supposedly legitimate media was lying up their assholes!

legitimate questions were all we wanted answered..and This brave lady was taken down...

just as the attempts are now...

when will we as a people evolve and wake the hell up...
4 years after 9/11 i asked one of my
state of fla congresswomen about PNAC..and she had no clue what i was talking about...not a clue...

i sat with Carol Mosley Braun..she said she had heard about it but wasn't
"versed in it"
and the same night i sat with Pat Schroder and her husband and when i asked them about PNAC..i got a blank look and a shake off that it had to be a conspiracy theory...i asked them to please read it.,.read it all..i asked them to email me and i would send it to them..and i never heard a thing from them ...
and i sat for 3 + hours next to them at dinner..the husband kept laughing about it ..

and these are the people dems send out to do dem events!

so here.. you do have a congress woman who has studied PNAC and Carlyle and the 9/11 events..and she gets strung up...

well its happening again with this b.s. in the capitol this week..it is incombant on all of us to talk the truth..do not carry forward b.s. msm propaganda...

they want to kill Mc Kinneys campaign ..will you allow it again?? or will you shut down the bullshit..

its up to all of us ..espeically here at du..

we have some sneaky ones here that want to make our boards all about defaming McKinney..will we allow it or shut those posts and bullshit down??

its up to all of us!

They SERVE their master Rove-Co. For example, Old "Hello Sunshine :puke:" anchor "Robin" on Headline news referred to the photographer who caught Scalia figuratively telling us to "get f**ked" was CANNED (what cute terminology) for breaking THE TRUST of his employer.

These bubble headed bimbos are as smarmy and whorish as they are easy on the eyes. Give me an older, real looking anchor ... put Jack Cafferty in the Anchor's chair? Yah!
