Anyone see the McCain meltdown on Meet The Press?
Edited on Sun Apr-02-06 08:45 AM by Karmadillo
He was against tax cuts for the rich before he was for them (You see, he was against the tax cuts at first because they gave benefits to those least needing them, but now that they're a reality, he can't vote to rescind them because that would be a tax increase and he's never voted for a tax increase and and and...). He previously couldn't say Bush ran an honorable campaign in 2000, but he can say it now. He once found Falwell an agent of intolerance, but that was, like, eons ago, man. He ended by outrageously comparing Tim Russert's questions (good ones, for a change) to his interrogations by the North Vietnamese (Saying something like I haven't had so much fun since my last interrogation--I'm assuming that's the allusion he was making, but maybe I'm being unfair). Came across as a total, complete cut and paste politician.

4. Nice post, Karmadillo, and very nice synopsis of McCain these days.
"Cut-and-paste politician." I love it.

The free-wheelin,' straight-talkin' honored war vet has grown faint in McCain and he's now what you say he is.

8. Tim must read DU !
I swear, his questions have been the topics of several McCain threads !!! LOL, especially the "huggy Bush" scenes, flip-flopping and a born again Bushophile!

Yes, the interrogation remark was in reference to his POW days.

Also, the next half hour Tony Zinni nails a lot of Viet Nam comparisons to Iraq, "we can win the battles, but we can't win the war".

Meet the Press is must see for sure!

13. McCain has always toed the party line. He just talked like he didn't.
When a vote came up on an issue that Clinton did not support, but the Republicans did, and McCain thought that the legislation was bad for the country, he voted for it along with his Republican colleagues despite the fact that his was the deciding vote.

He called it a Hobson choice, whether to vote his conscience and give Clinton a victory, or to vote with the Republicans saddling us with what he thought was a bad law.

He chose to give us a bad law.

24. it was a great interview, Tim did not let him get away with his crap
I think you're right about the parting shot.

My guess is Tim will be taken to the woodshed.

(Slightly off topic, if Bush really did win because all the religious nut cases got out the vote, the GOP is in trouble if it doesn't find another religious nut case. I think we are watching McCain turn into one? While I think Dems gave him too much credit, I have admired him over the years for having the guts to say no to the GOP machine. No more?)

27. You are all missing the point of this
This is just a cheap political trick by McCain with his buddy Timmie. He has his buddy Timmie ask him all these tough questions so now he can say, "I ALREADY ADDRESSED THAT" "THAT'S OLD NEWS" "LET'S MOVE ON, THAT'S BEEN COVERED" etc.

I thought DU folks knew all the tricks in the book, but it looks like a lot of you have a lot to learn how the game is played. If people on DU can't see through this charade, how is the American people going to see through it.

Once again the repukes are playing us like a fiddle.

35. my email to Tim Russert re: McCain & Zinni interviews:
Dear Mr. Russert:

Thank you for one of the most important interviews on the War in Iraq ever. Gen. Zinni is a patriot who informed the Senate Intel Comm. and others of the actual pre-war intelligence and steered them in the right direction. He was ignored in 2002 through early 2003 and now our nation is reaping the bitter harvest of an incompetent, dishonest, and corrupt administration that should be impeached---all of them. This was one of the best interviews you’ve ever done.

As for your interview with McCain, you soft-balled him re: his statements on Iraq. When he said we now have to “succeed in Iraq” because we’re there, despite his earlier advice to Bush to increase troop levels, you did not press him on his plans to stay. You did not ask him if he would increase the troop levels now that we’re there, or start a draft if he were to become president. What is McCain’s plan for Iraq? We’re just going to stay there indefinitely with the troops we presently have, whose numbers keep decreasing by being killed off and maimed by the Iraqi “insurgents?” Would McCain continue the soldiers’ two, three and four tours of duty? Would McCain keep sending in reserve troops, leaving us with none here at home for any future disaster such as Katrina? We don’t know the answers because you didn’t bother to ask the questions.

You didn’t ask McCain ANYTHING re: the broken army that Sen. Murtha has been telling us about. You did the American people a disservice in not pressing any of these topics.

Sincerely,
Wordpix

YES, worse than Bush. He's the epitome of the Faustian bargain. He knows evil and he says okay. He makes tough on anti-torture and then he let's Bush pull his bullshit signing statements. Yes, he said that was wrong for five minutes and then, shrug. McCain is proabably the one Republican that could have seriously hurt Bush. And instead he props him up and disses former friends like Kerry all because HE wants to be the next emperor. Disgusting.
