1. Iran is ready
Iran launches massive naval wargame titled "Holy Prophet"

Iran says it has tested radar-dodging missile

Iran’s kick-ass missiles
SS-N-22 Sunburn

Shahab-3
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shahab-3

With enough anti-ship missiles, the Iranians can halt tanker traffic through Hormuz for weeks, even months. With the flow of oil from the Gulf curtailed, the price of a barrel of crude will skyrocket on the world market. Within days the global economy will begin to grind to a halt. Tempers at an emergency round-the-clock session of the UN Security Council will flare and likely explode into shouting and recriminations as French, German, Chinese and even British ambassadors angrily accuse the US of allowing Israel to threaten world order.
Since Iran is the home of China's largest energy-related investments, a conflict with Iran will not only bring China to the table, but its Russian ally as well.

2. I doubt we're going to attack.
But if we did, those sunburn missiles and so forth will have no ready targets. Our carrier task forces will be out of missile range. Our attack will be by missile and stealth bomber, until their air defenses have eroded away to the point where we can bring in B-52s. Iran's nuclear program will be badly damaged, and all command and control assets will be destroyed. Much of the infrastructure will be gone.

Iran does have the ability to destroy middle eastern oil production or at least shipping. This will be a problem. Perhaps the US leadership expects these interruptions to be temporary and managable: when the Iranian government is dead, the successors will regret the radical Islamic politics that invited the ruinous US attack.

Now, again, I do not expect this. I am not certain but I believe US leadership has concluded that an attack is not possible (its risks considerably outweigh its gains). Possibly therefore, this leaked story is just US misinfo, to bully Iran.

It the story is not misinfo, it might represent a dissident faction in the US government that wants the public to be aware that the government is moving towards military action against Iran, because they want the public to stop it. Personally, I doubt this theory -- I imagine anyone revealing high-level talks of this kind would be committing a serious crime.

3. You forget one thing
PNAC

They have one mission and that is to pick off MidEast countries one by one. Iran is next on their Hit List. Logic and reason have no significance in their world.

10. But it's all OK
Edited on Sun Apr-02-06 01:10 PM by ronnie624
because Iran will have "invited the ruinous US attack." So you see, It is Iran's fault that we will attack, so we are justified in slaughtering more women and children because of their "radical Islamic politics" and their "nuclear weapons".

The plans of this administration are made glaringly obvious by mountains of documentation but some seem to prefer to pop morsels of propaganda like bon bons instead. Oh well.

8. The Iranians are a proud people with a large army and they will not just
lay down. I truly believe that bushco* is going to attack possibly with Isreal taking the lead off. China and Russia will get involved real quick too. Remember he told us he was a uniter, just didn't tell us what kind.

6. The story is about a feasibility study NOT a preparation for attack
the study will come back saying something along the lines of, "You know when we said don't go to war for another 2-3 years at least? Make that another 2-3 years because we are still not ready."

9. I should not rise to the bait but ...
no war will happen in Iran. I have lost count of the number of times I have posted on this.

USA does not have enough money or troops and it has exhausted all it's political capital some time ago.

Bushco would have to re-instate the draft and raise taxes before going into Iran. btw what the hell would they do with Iran once they occupied it? Does it look like they have learned any lessons from Iraq?

An occupation force that would have to be at the very least 4 times the size of that in Iraq, and would cost at least 4 times that of the force now in Iraq.

Any and all talk of a war with Iran is fantasy.
