Another reason the ports issue didn't sit well with Bush's base

My husband was talking with some of his co-workers. They are hunters and pro war and big into keeping women in their place (his characterization of them, btw). They are really mad at Bush because Bush said the Dems were racist for opposing the ports deal. They said, "Bush is calling US racist, because we don't want nothing to do with them brown A-rabs. How dare he!" Oh yes, they don't like blacks, either. And they don't see anything illogical with what they said!

My husband says that when Bush courted these kinds of people, it was like a man picking up a snake. The longer he holds on and the more careless he becomes, the more likely he is to be bitten.

2. Bush is just buying people's votes

and they figure it out once in a while. He is not a real conservative, he just woos people to get something. Did you see how he dressed in Mexican style of big white shirt and loose khakis when he was in Mexico, to court the Mexicans? A lot of people buy into this stuff, you say their code words and dress like them to woo them.
