10. They don't--she's just the only woman they have with any clout
...to counter Hillary. And they have to play an EQUIVALENT game. You show me a woman, I'll show YOU a woman!! You show me a war hero, I'll show YOU a chickenhawk in a flight suit!

They use Hillary as the enshrined candidate, despite the fact that she has not yet declared, there have been no primaries, there are others who are interested in the contest, mainly to raise funds (it isn't really Hillary they hate, it's Bill Clinton's dick, but it's easier to beat up a woman, in their little peabrain heads); then they hold up Condi as if to say "See, we have a smart, tough woman TOO!!"

It's a game of "Nanny, nanny, booboo, stick it in yer poopoo!" on the political stage...childish in the extreme.

They aren't gonna run her--they just use her as window dressing, so they don't "appear" sexist. Condi will accomodate them by DECLINING to run, but they can still claim that they liked her as a candidate.

It's all a bit of theater to them. If Condi ever DID get serious about running, they'd find a way to trash her and make it seem like it was OPPO smearing. They'd shovel the shit, and blame the Democrats for it.

31. Exactly right about Chevronleezza Rice
Edited on Mon Apr-03-06 09:25 AM by klook
Who can seriously say that Rice would be a Republican presidential candidate? Like the party of racist, independent-woman-hating, "family values" dogmatists would want for their president a black, strong, independent woman who is unmarried and childless? Who do they think they're kidding?

(edited to add the second "z")

32. Yeah, but she's a black woman who is a complete disgrace to
both women and blacks. She is *IN* the party of racist, women-hating dogmatists and is proud of it. That takes a special kind of self-loathing. I often wonder if she isn't gay as well, the full trifecta of everything Republicans hate.

Self-loathing minorities/women/gays are the GOPs favorite playthings. They trot them out whenever anyone talks about the horrible policies of the right that make life hell for minorities/women/gays and say "THAT'S A LIE! We LOVE minorities/women/gays!"

In fact, since Dumbass has shown that the POTUS need only be a puppet anyway, I bet the super-PNAC-neocons would LOVE to have Condi run. They could go around trumpeting to the world how wonderful and progressive the GOP is for electing a BLACK AND FEMALE president, but not give her any control.

33. The only way I could see her on a ticket is as VP to McCain
I saw him shitting all over himself on "MEET THE POTATOHEAD" this weekend, and what I found very CURIOUS is that he referred to her as CONDI. You know, like you talk about yer poker buddy, or your next door neighbor. It was very casual, very offhand.

Now, he's been on the Hill a longass time (since his days as the Asshole of OLA, when he was still active duty) and you just do NOT talk about someone who is a CABINET LEVEL OFFICIAL (and the MOST SENIOR official in the cabinet), even if you know them very well, in a public forum, as "Condi." You call them the Secretary of State, or Secretary Rice, but not "Condi." It's bad form. And a senator who is used to saying "My esteemed colleague" and "The distinguished Senator from (insert state)" simply KNOWS BETTER. There seemed to be a signal transmitted there.

My alarm bells went off. She could well be the VP pick. Maybe that's what the halfassed hair makeover and the eschewing of the Dominatrix outfits of late is all about.

McCain would be just hubris-laden enough to think that he could scoop up the FundyRighty vote by touting Intelligent Design and speaking to the moron "grads" of Liberty U, and lock in the "Dames and Africans" contingent by adding her to his ticket.

I hope I am wrong.

Look at the SurveyUSA 50-state tracking poll. Utah is one of the biggest Bush-supporting states now. That the former Mormon Tribune would publish this devastating cartoon at all is stunning.

21. Perhaps she altered her thought in mid-stream, and WAS going to
mention the casualties, but quickly thought better of it and said "mistakes".

But even if not, SUBconsciously she is referring to them. I have no doubt.

27. the brave Bagleys
Indeed. His brother, Will, is a friend of mine. He wrote The Blood of the Prophets, in which he argued that Brigham Young was well aware of the fate that would befall the Fancher-Baker wagon train before the Mountain Meadows Massacre occurred. It takes a huge amount of courage to write that kind of honest history while you're living in Utah. And Pat is an outstanding cartoonist whose editorial views are not what the vast majority of Utahns are used to seeing or particularly interested in see.
