Apparently the "press" did not learn their lesson

As I flip through the various stations, I am starting to see the SAME type of reporting about IRAN, that they did prior to the IRAQ debacle.

For all their chest beating and mea culpas of recent months, they have slipped back into OCD-mode, and are again frantically beating the new war drums again. Like the compulsive light-switch checkers, and hand washers, they are dutifully repeating the talking points on the quarter-hour and trying to convince themselves that it might be "necessary" to have a war with Iran.

This time around there's no Judith Miller to blame, and after being monumentally duped by the administration before, it boggles the mind to see them doing it AGAIN.

As much as I loathe the "missing girl and shark" stories, I almost long for their return. At least when they are obsessing about those stories, they are not spending time trying to talk the public into attacking Iran..

Not yet. Remember 2002? Two topics, a steady drumbeat of them and only them: Get Saddam, and tax cuts for the rich. Get Saddam, and tax cuts for the rich. Osama was a forbidden name. When Bush gets that single minded (insert joke here) then we need to take note.

it hits them personally. That's the trouble with most of what's going on. It's "out there" and only when the issue had the potential of being "over here" (the ports deal) did issues come up. Out of sight, out of mind (what little there is).

be any different?

The same circumstances that caused our corporate media to become a White House propaganda machine prior to the Iraq invasion are still in place. The big media outlets are still in the hands of a few ultra wealthy people.

They'll start offering critical coverage of potential wars the *moment* the White House starts promoting an unprofitable war.
