I finally got to see V this weekend
Boy was that strong. Not the greatest plot but then again I wasn't there for that. The message was right on and the Rove character was perfect. Being the child of WW2 immigrants (eastern European, non-Jewish) I heard the stories about my family's running away from both the Nazi's and the Russians. Too many flashbacks and right on for today's environment. I'm still shaking my head in amazement. . .

1. I saw it last week.
I actually was a bit disappointed, not much. But I expected more of a plot that would translate into BFEE

I do think it was a bit over the top and many americans will not see the relationship between the movie and what could be in America tomorrow

3. Who gives a shit if Americans don't see their country is tearing at the
seams. Why the fuckin football game is on and I gotta get to church this morning!!

::sarcasm::

seriously though unless the words tits, god, and gays are mentioned in a sentence nowadays your average American doesn't care and will not pay attention.

It's just too bad they gotta drag the rest of us down with them.

5. The orginal comic was serialized starting in the early 1980s.
If they had strayed too far from the text, they would have caught holy hell from a couple of generations of comic fans, and they are a very big part of the audience for this film.

Having said that, I think maybe more people get it than you suspect. The current crop of 15 to 40 year olds increasingly sees right through Bush, I think.

2. Saw it last weekend myself
And I felt it was probably the second best graphic novel/comic book based live action movie out there. I didn't really feel it fell short on plot, the base back story and plot are fairly standard dark future with very few stand out details. To me that wasn't really disappointing since I felt the movie was about the message (from your post I think you were saying pretty much the same thing).

Though, I did question the results of the brainwashing session. I'm only about 60% sure that he would have produced the results he ended up with. 40% of me says she would have killed him for putting her through all of that. They gloss it over pretty well as essentially intensive PTS therapy, and for the sake of the story I buy the results, but what he did was risky to her psyche at best, to his (and her) life at worst.

I guess he knew what he was doing, it worked out in their favor.

4. I'm reading the book first. And I hate early crowds, anyway.
Edited on Sun Apr-02-06 05:04 PM by Neil Lisst
I'm about 2/3 through the book. I'll go see the film when I can see it at about noon before a crowd of about 12 people.

It was written in the early 1980s, inspired by the Reign of Maggie Thatcher.
