Former Sen. Jesse Helms Has Dementia
They just realized this?

RALEIGH, N.C. - Former U.S. Sen. Jesse Helms, in increasingly poor health before and since he left office three years ago, has vascular dementia and has moved into a convalescent center near his home, his wife said.

"He has his good days and his bad days," Dot Helms, told The News & Observer for a story Sunday. "He still sees friends. Company is good for him. He is still signing books. But he is not able to conduct any business or make any speeches."

The 84-year-old Republican has been slowed by illnesses including a bone disorder, prostate cancer and heart problems. As his career neared its end, he made his way through the Capitol on a motorized scooter. He decided against seeking a sixth term and left Congress in January 2003.

1. Of course he will be cared for by privately paid private
duty nurses rather than the poorly paid and overworked CNAs that are employed by nursing homes.

.............
Why Won't Jesse Helms Just Hurry Up And Die?
Verse 1
Big fat fuck from North Carolina state,
he's a worthless piece of shit, he's a paragon of hate,
he's a redneck, fuck-face, brain-dead waste of space,
two-bit, two-timing, motherfucking pool of slime.
Against gay rights, and funding for the arts,
tried to cancel PBS and tear Big Bird apart.
cut AIDS funding, corporate welfare for the rich,
he's a shameless money grubber, he's a two dollar bitch.

Chorus
Why won't Jesse Helms just hurry up and die?
...............

I do understand the anger of Gabi and some other posters. I just think we're all on this sphere for a limited time and some endings are just too horrible for even my enemies.

32. OK...here goes, and I don't like talking about this
Edited on Sun Apr-02-06 08:33 PM by Gabi Hayes
my dad spent the last nine or ten years in a VA hospital

care got worse and worse, not that I blamed the people there, cause the government was constantly cutting back on staffing. people stole everything he had, even his MIT ring, his glasses (several times), his slippers

I won't go into the pysical details, but the VA stuff particularly galls me as everyone here very well knows what's happening to our soldiers as they come back armless, legless, hopeless

my father had his ASS blown off in WWII, literally, fighting for an apparently lost cause, because MONSTERS like Helms and his corporate masters are able to do anything they like.

I don't want to have anybody in this country have to fight this battle again, and I have very little regard for Helms and his ilk. Peace be to his family, but I won't go any farther than that. Being no Christian, I will say this: karma is a bitch, baby

34. I relate fully, I'm a disabled vet.
I understand & share your toward monsters like Helms, I get to experience on a regular basis as I am totally dependent upon it for my survival. I have to wait six months between neurologist's appointments. I'm lucky to be in a "priority" group!

Karma is indeed a bitch.

8. It's easy to make a lot of pithy one-liners on this, but...
this time I'll pass. I've known people who have had some of the similar ailments. It's very difficult to go through, both for the person suffering and their family. I will never say Jesse Helms was a good person, because I didn't know him that well and most of what I did know of him I disliked.
To me, Helms will always be the poster boy for the new Republican Party. Most of what it embodies today he was pushing thirty five years ago.
The irony of Helms for me was one of the first black university students who attended Ole Miss with the aid of the National Guard worked for Helms (The man's name escapes me) and he held most of the same beliefs that Sen Helms did.

when they age. I'm sorry for his family, of course. But I wonder, you think maybe they've thought so many evil thoughts that their brain simply won't process it any more? not much of a legacy to look back on in your late days, is it?

13. you know why don't you?
only the good die young, half of all people over age 85 have dementia, since GOP are evil and therefore don't die young, they have a greater risk of living into the dementia years

28. i don't like jesse helms, never did, but i feel sad for him ...
the life cycle stages preparing to the end oflife are sad and lonely and i think we are all afraid of them and would prefer not to have to go through any of the pain of dying...but neither do i want to go through the suddenness of dying in a rapture and particularly not any rapture created by the bushit boy's nuclear bombs, or any nuclear bombs in response to the bushit boy's nuclear bombs.
