Sometimes I wish I was a Conservative.

Mind you, I'm not saying that all conservatives are mindless Bush-bots but the vast majority certainly act like they are.

I have occasionally tried to engage a few of them in political discourse. I have tried, unsuccessfully usually, to get them to 'see the light.'

Watch them as their eyes glaze over. Watch as emotion fights logic. See them as they shuffle around, mentally contorting around the facts until one of two things happen:

1. Bush-bot calls you names, ie. left-wing crackhead (my all time favorite (NOT!))

2. Bush-bot claims that you are 'just a Bush hater, you want the terrorists to win, we're fighting them over there', blah, blah, blah.

It's so easy for them. No serious thought required.

Just for one day, I'd like to have 'no serious thought required.' No concerns about our civil liberties being trashed, no concerns about the mess that Bushco will leave behind, no worries about global warming.

Unfortunately, it's not gonna happen anytime soon.

2. The day after Katrina
I brought up to my GOP friend that maybe W and Rice should have been a little more caring and interested in the flood victims rather than celebrating birthdays and buying shoes. He tore into me that he was sick of me tearing into the GOP and these individuals had every reason to lead their lives without a concern for Louisiana. He told me I should quit blaming the GOP and quit being so partisan.

We don't talk politics much any more.

8. My stepdad insisted "They could've gotten out if they really wanted to."
That was on a long visit. Once I was home I sent him many articles. I never got much reply. He's getting better and he's no Bushlover but, still. Racism, I guess. My brother and I STILL have to send him to Snopes almost daily due to the sort of unmitigated BS he forwards to us. What's sad is that underneath he's got plenty of brain, but he's just too set in his ways to change his entire operating-system at this point. And too pickled in bourbon.

3. ...
You know, for every time I've heard a liberal called a commie or a Bush Hater, I've heard a liberal call a conservative a Nazi or a fascist. Don't pretend like we're the only victims of simplistic thought -- there's enough blame for that to go around. Just look at the first reply to this thread...

6. Remember the 90s?
The political discourse in this country has been destroyed by the Republican Party and their media. It only seems that we're as bad as the pricks who had a 10 year head start.

7. Well...
...I'm not quite 30, but as long as I've been paying attention to politics (well over a decade) the insults and pettiness has been freely flowing from both sides of the aisle.

11. Yes, we should be a lot nicer to these people.
I'm almost twice your age and a student of politics my whole life. I have never seen a more systematic bunch of criminals who masquerade as a political party. But I'll try to speak more civilly about the people who are destroying this country for you and my kids.

12. Count up the number of hours of right wing hate radio
broadcast across this country each week. Every city in America has two or three talk stations that have done nothing for the past 15 years but broadcast 24-hour-a-day demonization of liberals.

Air America is only 2 years old, and only came about in response to right wing radio. Hating on people is not what liberals do well. But it's something a huge part of conservative America lives for. If you haven't noticed this, you haven't been paying attention.

9. The difference is
that you heard the left called terrorist sympathizers on Fox, CNN, WaPo, WSJ, NYT, etc.

You heard the right called Nazis on obscure internet web sites like DU.

Wonder why you bothered to stop by.

10. I beg to differ
Tell me, for example, who is the liberal equivalent of Ann Coulter? Or Limbaugh? Or Hannity?

13. The difference of course is that today's conservative does equal fascist
Anyone still using the label Republican or conservative and supporting this administration is nothing more than a fascist. This is not name-calling, it is the simple truth.
