Can someone help me figure out the lingo?

I have been frequenting DU for several months now and I am still trying to figure out some of the lingo such as nt. K&R and some abbreviations such as I'M???.

Now I consider myself of average intelligence, but this stuff gives me a head ache sometimes. Any help out there?

2. K&R -- Kicked & Recommended

IM - Instant Message (with an apostrophe, though, it's a contraction of I am!) But usually on DU it is PM, Personal Message, which goes to your DU mailbox. An IM uses something like Yahoo Messenger, or AOL whatever-they-call-it.

The little box hides a thread.

3. nt means No Text

It's for a post that you have all you want to say in the title, so people don't click on it to find nothing there.

K&R is Kicked and Recommended. I"m posting so your post goes back to the top and I'm recommending it to be the greatst page.

I'M is a contraction combinging I and am. I am going to the store. I'm Going to the store.

Actually I don't know what I'M is supposed to mean, since I'm sure it's not actually a contraction, in this context.

12. How Do You IM Someone On DU?

Just asking since I have never seen an IM program on here...or maybe there isn't one and you IM on AIM or somewhere else? I am not trying to be a smartass or anything, I really want to know...

And thanks for the glossary...just suggested such a thing a little farther down in this thread. I am bookmarking it right this minute, lol.

9. Yeah, Me Too...

I did find out that n/t = "no text" and PM = "personal mail" (meaning you can send them personal mail from your DU email) but...that is about all. Maybe we need a place to find acronym meanings, lol.

13. Kicked-reply to original post to increase the number of replies.

Back in time, replying to a post moved (kicked) it back to the top of the list, improving the chances it would be seen. This was changed for a while so that it didn't matter: the thread would float down through once, replaced by later posts. I am not sure, at present, whether that works or not.
R-recommended for appearance on the front page--"recommend" button at the bottom of the OP.
