NPR just reported about the Chevy Tahoe "make your own" contest!
But it was about the type of contest entries that we made here!
I thought they were going to read the first "ad" that started off the fun in Skinner's OP, but it was slightly different.

It seems quite a few people did the same thing as we did here on other blogs.

Chevy's Make-Your-Own SUV Ads Go Off Message

Audio for this story will be available at approx. 7:30 p.m. ET (at link above)

All Things Considered, April 3, 2006 ·
Chevrolet has run into problems with its innovative Internet ad
campaign for the Chevy Tahoe, which gives site visitors wide latitude in
creating their own Tahoe ads. But the campaign, tied in with a contest for
The Apprentice TV show, has created a somewhat of a backlash.

3. Well, they should have been expecting that
What people do with something once you stick it out on the Web and let them do something with it is pretty much out of your control.

What I'm wondering is if all this fun people are having with the make-your-own-ad isn't serving in a backhanded way to advertise them effectively anyway--in that they might at least end up with more name recognition as the result of all these people who couldn't resist having fun with their idea.

6. Negative Feedback always trumps name-recognition...
I'm not sure it would help them even if it reinforces the name recognition. When you have ads that say your car is going to kill the planet, I'd say you have a serious problem. Chevy needs to get out in front of this fiasco and come up with something pretty fricken fast. If it were me, I'd turn every engineer I had to figuring out how to make an attractive hybrid. Even if I didn't succeed in creating more efficiency, at least I could shake this "anti-environment" monkey off my back. These idiots aren't even making the attempt. They're marketing another gas guzzling, ozone-killing, over-priced piece of shit that is going to go down the road exactly like any other truck on the road. I swear, sometimes I truly believe these guys are living in a completely different reality. They're responsible for thousands of jobs which translates into support for thousands of families, not to mention the vendors who rely on their existence; and yet we get the NEW CHEVY TAHOE. Someone needs to tell them that people really do want fuel efficiency and a clean environment. Hopefully they'll get the message before all those people have to start looking for a new paycheck.

4. Donald Trump and Chevrolet compare Bush to Hitler
A nation warped by LIES
Lies fuel FEAR
Fear fuels AGGRESSION
INVASION
OCCUPATION
What were WAR CRIMES in 1945
is FOREIGN POLICY in 2006
George W. Bush is Hitler
The Donald says:
"Bush, you're Hitler and you're fired"

The liberal activist site MoveOn ran a contest, Bush in 30 Seconds, in which people were invited to create and submit political TV ads critical of the Bush Administration, with the winning entry to air in swing states and on national television. (CBS has refused to air the winning ad during the Super Bowl, however.)

Over 1,500 ads were submitted. Out of them, two compared Bush to Hitler. After years of talking about "feminazis" and "Hitlery" Clinton, the right wing suddenly felt that Third Reich references were absolutely indefensible. Republicans expressed new-found outrage, and the corporate media dutifully tsk-tsked. MoveOn pulled the ads from their contest Website.

7. Are you talking about the pre-2004 "election" MoveOn contest...
...or a new one? Because I think they are about to have a new, similar contest.
