The real deal on McKinney
She did not plan this.

But she is grandstanding the issue as a play to her base in South DeKalb. The Northern half of the county is whit ans far more affluent. They bounced McKinney out last term and elected Denise Majette another African American Democrat and a state court judge.. Majette abandoned the House in a stupid attempt at the Senat after one House Term. McKinney waltz back in. Dekalb north is looking fod someone to contend against her now and I suspect this is soley about her positioning to be able to blast any one else who dares to challenger her in the primary.

1. Whaaa?
I must admit that's a different view. However, I'd bet few people would choose to put themselves up for this much scrutiny. Especially since the media is owned by the Corporations, our voices are rarely heard.

But interesting none the less. :-)

2. Republicans bounced her out that term.

They crossed over voted in the Democratic primary.

It was well planned and widely documented.

11. She was targeted by AIPAC for not following in line...
As is usual AIPAC modus operandi, they assaulted the district with outside money, all of it going to her rival. She was not willing to follow their instructions or support their causes or become their puppet so she was made to disappear, they thought permanently. She was outspent by a lot of money, she could not compete and as we know, money equals victory in American elections. Score one for AIPAC, one of many....That is American democracy today.

3. Hank Johnson (DeKalb Commissioner) is challenging McKinney
Since he has a solid political history representing McKinney's core constituents, it could be a very interesting primary battle, particularly after this most recent incident.

4. They'll have to arrest and charge her ...
I believe that this "swift boating" attempt may just serve to backfire on these evil bastards.

He won't stand a chance - even if the Right wing funds him.

6. You don't have a clue....
For 40 some years I lived in Dekalb County (just left late last year). The Republicans fucked with the primaries not to mention gave money to Majette...National money was involved. They want revenge for her comments about Bush post 911....they will do anything to get it. This has nothing to do with her positioning herself or posturing. She simply is fighting back when attacked.

exactly like the did with Joe Wilson. They're just trying different angles to get her Plamed/swiftboated.

9. The repubs in her area switched to Dem or are allowed to vote in
the Dem primaries. They got together and got Majette into the election. They may have been all white. What am I saying - they were repubs. Duh!

13. TOTALLY agree
I live in her district. Yes, she's getting dumped on but McKinney is a master at using these things to her political advantage. This thing is playing great here at home. Here in South Dekalb this plays out as her going up against "the man" - which is why she is so loved here. IMHO the end result of this will be Cynthia saving a boatload of money on her re-election (which is pretty much assured) and likely blacks all over the country galvanizing against the Republicans.

BTW, Majette used the senate race as an excuse not to face McKinney again. She would have lost in a landslide. The Dems tapped her because there was so much rancid feelings toward McKinney post 911 that the Dems knew McKinney might lose and didn't want the seat to go R. Majette agreed from the start to only serve long enough to give the McKinney thing time to cool off. When it came round that McKinney was partly right - that Bush IS a lying sack - then there was no need for Majette.

17. the only reason majette won
is because of republican cross over voting -- in that instance.

this is well known and documented -- conservative dems worked with repukes to sell her out.

18. It's my understanding
Majette was originally approached by the Dems not the R's. I have no doubt there was crossover voting in the primaries. And like I said, Majette did not run again for congress because she had to know she couldn't win. Just MHO as a resident here watching the goings on. As always, JMHO.

20. Thats an insult
Why do you attribute the worst motives possible to McKinney--and then on top of that, insult the intelligence of her constituents? What the heck does the affluency of South/North Dekalb have to do with anything? There are people right here in my district living in homes costing over 1 million, and those people are more likely to vote in the next election than the poorest residents !
