Anyone remember them? Once a key part of the political scene, by the 1860 elections they were a relic, a political curiosity of days long gone by. The Puke party is skating toward that same fate on some thin ice...

The GOP controls all three branches of the federal government. I think it's a little premature to be talking about their demise.

2. My recollection

is that the Whig Party was split on the issue of slavery. Hopefully the Republicans are going to take a big hit this cycle, but I don't see an issue out there that will split the party enough to destroy it. One can always hope though.

You can just imagine what the history books are going to show - That old Whig Party never did the death and damage we have here.

6. I think the Pukes are due for a major backlash

and most of that is due to the overindulgence the Party has made with the crazed religious loonies. . .and I suspect people in this country are increasingly wary of these people, the demands they make, and their intent to interfere in the basic freedoms that constitute our lives. The Party panders so badly to these people that they have rapidly lost any identity with their moderate wing and the only way for the Party to regain any balance is to suffer a great enough defeat at the polls for the fundies to get sacked with the blame.

7. The fundies may divide them, but the almighty dollar unites them.

Republicans have shown a great willingness to put up with just about anything as long as they think they are paying less in taxes and that no undeserving poor person is getting "their" money.
