but she is probably too good to do this and I heard a lot of snotty remarks on how "fat"
she was, I saw video of her homecoming on the news tonight. She is tiny, she must weigh
a whopping 110 pounds. They went out of their way to trash this woman, who has undergrone
a horrific ordeal. I wish her well, I wish all journalists were as brave as her. Edward
R. Murrow would be proud of what she did. Could you see Judith Miller doing this????

told the press to give her some slack. It's not like the movies, everyone must GIVE to survive being held by the enemy. I don't like so many things about McCain's sucking up to * of late, but he seemed quite genuine when he asked EVERYONE to respect her privacy and not condemn her out of hand.

thesis on "The Torture Techniques of the North Vietnamese" and the lasting effect it had on those prisoners.

I know everyone has a right to be VERY disappointed in McCain, but he did endure one hell of an grueling experience for 5 years as a POW. What's sad is that he does not realize the the right wing religious nuts do NOT ever forgive. He will never get their support. It's sad that he just does not understand that fact. I wish he would come back to being the somewhat moderate republican that I knew when I lived in Arizona. Never voted for him but he was not immoral or wretched like this bunch of thieves we have as republican leaders now.

5. I think that Bush has the power to change people

McCain always had ethics and criticized Jerry Falwell, now he's endorsing him, and he's
compromised a great deal with Bush including not hold GWB accountable for the whisper
campaign and all its vileness. I really don't get it.

That makes two of us! This is complex but I would begin by studying how DEEP those whisper campaigns hurt him and his family. To put it way too simplistic, like an abused spouse, sometimes they are the ones (the abusers) you cling to most.

But yes, that's a long-term case study right there.

So, he has to suck up to the Republican leadership to get their support for 2008. Sad to see. Like someone else said, they'll never trust him & they'll never support him no matter what he does. Even 10% of independent thought is too much.

12. I've been thinking about this

the Republican Party has become the cult of one, which = George Walker Bush, I never remember this happening before. Sure some the Dems have been so arrogant that they thought
they could walk on water. The Prez who picked up a dog by his ears comes to mind here.
But there was still a functional congress. Now the current government reminds me of the
King and I, you have Bush and then you have the inferior lackeys, I never remember this
happening before, even JFK who was loved by the American people did not have a submissive,
passive congress. They are going to have to rethink their values, McCain should be their
first choice not their last.

14. L'etat, c'est moi.

Bush is like a Louis XIV figure, w/the entire state revolving around him. Our Congress seems less like a real, functioning independent body, & more like an aristocracy of lords & ladies subserviant to the King. In this sense, to get power, you have to appeal directly to the king. McCain is appealing to the king for his power & has lost any integrity in doing so. He's paying homage to the GOP royals in the hopes that he can someday inherit the crown. That's why he's backed down on so many initiatives & played nice w/the man who once attacked himself & his family. I think it's a calculated political move becasue someone has promised him the GOP nomination if he plays nice now. But if McCain thinks that. he's wrong. The GOP will never trust him w/the leadership because he's shown too many indications of independent thought. They'd rather have a moron like George Allen who won't disturb the real powers behind the throne. To mix a whole bunch of metaphors. McCain is not the worst of the bunch, but he almost angers me more because his does have honor & independence that he's compromising to his ambition. I don't know who should be the first choice, but I'm inclined to someone completely outside the mainstream who can bust up this little cabal.

I hope that we don't get another person who is "managed" as president; whose first instinct
is to be a crowd pleaser (to his base) at the expense of the common good.

9. To be fair, and I hate IMUS, but I woke up this morning to him demanding

his producer (or whoever the guys were that said those things) apologize. He seemed very pissed. Maybe he was embarassed and this was his cornholio way of apologizing. I don't know if he said it or one of the yahoos on the show said it but he was clearly angry this morning, after the fact (and I'm sure that's key, since I don't know the whole story).

On edit: I just read misswaverly's post and pretty much think IMUS might be pissed because he could be sued for slander.

13. Quite frankly, I'm surprised all 3 are still employed

I remember watching Frazier, can't they just cut to a commercial if somebody makes
offensive remarks on these live shows. I won't repeat what they said but it was the
verbal equivalent of raw sewage and I thought her interview was not inflammatory, she
talked about being held in a small room and given enough to eat. I didn't see how
that caused this vitriolic outpouring of hate.
