Edited on Mon Apr-03-06 09:15 PM by ourbluenation
worried for our nation. With that as a foundation he'd be dangerous. He has nothing to lose and that would scare the shit out of the GOP and inspire our fellow americans, both on the left and the right, to take our country back from the wingnuts. Dont'cha think? Al Gore unleashed. I love it.

Go Bruins

2. Al Gore has the stature and the emotional clout, plus the historical
context of the wronged guy, plus a lot of empathetic fighter-Dem support.

I was a Bradley delegate in 2000, so my comments on Gore early, early on were not especially positive. when my guy lost and Gore got the nomination, I worked furiously for the ticket. We knew it was going to be damned close.

Gore won Florida, that's all there is to it. Bush cheated.

Gore could ride the tide of that historical outrage, adding his much-needed and nearly pioneering voice on the environment to the mix. He could ride a tall white horse in the big White House, and he by god have my vote in the process.

You are completely right-on with this, ourbluenation. A bull's eye.

3. Much of the country remembers him as a stuffed shirt - wooden.
They haven't had the benefit of seeing him unleashed like we have. He's a dynamic speaker and a ball buster deep down. And...HE'S PISSED!

I seriously think he could take the whole taco.

10. Not in that photo, and not lately on the stump. His recent speeches have
been sizzlers. Barn-burners. Masterpieces of American political oratory.

But in earlier days Al Gore was stiff and funereal in public appearances.

8. I think so too, and a certain junior Senator from New York would find
the campaign path a lot steeper. Should Gore privately, quietly place a few calls to party operatives and party chairpeople in, say, Iowa, New Hampshire, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, the race could tighten very, very quickly, and I think he would be considered the front-runner if he announced.

In a brokered convention, Gore would be the logical consensus candidate, too.

I don't think the nation has seen the last of him. I hope not.

22. That's a big 10-4, Canuckistanian. Gore has the education, a real one,
one he earned, and then expounded on. An adult who kept learning and got better and more attuned to global warming, environmental issues generally, and has that command of language you cite as a delivery system.

No wonder Gore looked peeved during the debates with Dubya. There was no one on that stage who could challenge Gore's range, especially not that little pipsqueak from Texas.

Canuckistanian, your posts are consistently excellent and I just wanted to say so.

27. Well I hope we can deliver a bluer vote in 06 so we can begin to
become better neighbors to you good folks up north.

My first real introduction to Canada -- don't laugh -- was "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" by Gordon Lightfoot. I was 17 and just beginning to experience some of the early singer-songwriter folk musicians.

It became apparent to me fairly soon that a huge percentage of the very best ones came from Canada!

Lightfoot. Ian and Sylvia. Joni Mitchell. Neil Young. Leonard Cohen. And so forth.

And it's just an aside, but our own Bob Dylan, asked about his opinion of Lightfoot's work, said, "When I hear one of his songs, I want it to last forever." I'm not sure a songwriter can hope for a higher compliment than to have Dylan wish his compositions would not end. So for me, Lightfoot is tops.

And that put Canada on my map early. My sister lived there (Montreal) for 3 years. My visits were educational and downright fun. What a beautiful country you live in.

67. Hi, AuntiBush. Have to agree that 'need' is the right word with Gore.
We need that experience and those smarts and that sturdiness of character.

(I say this as if to imply a distinction with a certain Republican incumbent...)

While it's still fairly early in the game, I wonder if a good showing by Democrats in the midterms -- and a capture of the U.S. House majority along with it -- might seal the deal for Gore.

He'd watch the late returns and decide it might be wonderful to work with Nancy Pelosi as leader instead of the footstool we have in there now (Hastert), and he'd jump into the race.

Senator Clinton would be hardpressed to fend off a challenge by the once-and-future president.

19. Same here, but I'm sure the truth will reveal all. And truth is preferable
No matter how I feel, on anything, to believe in it only leads to heartache if reality proves to be different.

I'm tired of having a hurt heart. From all who are leaders or wish to be leaders.

Therefore I will not form an ultimate opinion until the truth is said.

Our country needs honesty and vision and a clear groundwork on which to build ourselves.

No more chicanery. No more games. No more selling out. No more whoring out. America is rotting. We don't need any more false images, mirages, and empty hopes. We need solid reality. Both mainstream political parties do, but I digress.

When Al comes forward is when we shall know where he stands.

Or, indeed, we can infer just as much from his apparent silence on the issue as much as we can infer that we don't think he'd be the type to vote for the move.

Handwritten, no less, in the hopes such a personal note would merit more attention. I've been happy to see the enthusiasm for him on just about every thread that comes along here. It seems that whenever someone gets a chance to see him speak, he just seems like the most logical choice for 2008. If we're lucky, he'll run. If we're even luckier, he'll beat the rigged systems and win. I can't think of anyone else who's got a snowball's chance of cleaning up the mess we're in.

has a lead of some kind already, and that it's big enough s that even if the race tightens, they generally feel that Casey will prevail.

It would be a real fine thing to have Santorum and DeLay gone in the same 12-month period.

The Big Dog is like Bransky in "Glengarry Glen Ross"...he can do the work of three men: Secretary of State, UN Ambassador, and Secretary of HHS. That would free Gore up to do the heavy lifting on saving the world from the peril we've created by not listening to people like Gore. Hillary can stay in the Senate and have a great time.

"I'm not planning to be a candidate again. I haven't reached a stage in my life where I'm willing to say I will never consider something like this," he said. "But I'm not saying that to be coy; I'm just saying that to be honest -- that I haven't reached that point."

Gore took New England, the "Left Coast," New Mexico, Iowa, and all the Great Lakes states except for Ohio. This is not good enough for 2008.

He could have taken Tennessee if he hadn't alienated law-abiding gun owners in his own home state.

If you run Gore again in 2008, I think you'll see the map repeat itself. Yes, I believe Gore rightfully took Florida in 2000, but Jeb Bush's gang have inflicted so much damage on the state's electoral process that I don't think he can take Florida in 2008.

I sympathize with Gore. By all rights, he should have been inaugurated in 2001. But a lot has changed since then, including the Democratic Party. We need someone who can take the Great Plains and possibly a couple of states in the South and the West.

58. Unlike the current occupant, Gore's actually qualified for the office
by education, experience and life choices. He's (shock) not perfect, but he's patriotic, moral and clean as a whistle because lord knows if there was dirt on him they would have found it. He has been an eloquent defender of the good that America could be. He will set this country afire with his passion, and he will put us on a course to energy independence, a more sustainable environmental footprint, and a fairer economy.

I do not doubt that he could do it if we would get behind him and shout down the ditto-heads. Gore is the GOP's worst nightmare.

59. Think of the environmental impact if Al had been POTUS the last 5 yrs!
We'd at least be making some progress, instead of sending the Earth into its death spiral (as Dubya has been doing).

I love Al's passion -- in more ways than one!

70. Is Hannity flip-flopping?
Back on Dec. 6, 2004 Hannity endorsed on his show Hannity and Colmes. Here's an article from the algore-08.com website.

GNN - - Sean Hannity, conservative co-host of Fox News Channels' popular "Hannity & Colmes show", stunned the nation by becoming unhinged during a live broadcast on Monday, December 6th, 2004, enthusiastically endorsing former Vice President Al Gore.

Hannity's shocking breakdown occurred during an interview with AlGore-08.com grassroots field coordinator Steve Robinson, who had been invited on Hannity's show to discuss the 2008 Presidential election. Startling his conservative audience, Hannity ranted "You can put it on your website: Sean Hannity endorses Al Gore!" Things soon got so crazy that Hannity's "liberal" co-anchor Alan Colmes enthusiastically echoed "I want him!" apparently unaware that he was actually supporting a Democratic candidate.

The video link on the website is dead but it did happen. I watched Hannity say it.
