Up until about a year ago, Tom Delay was arguably the most powerful man in Washington. So adept was he at evading responsibility for his actions, it would have been only in our wildest dreams that would we have imagined him out of Congress and facing criminal prosecution. Our wildest dreams have come true.

Before Delay, Newt Gingrich was the Master of the Universe, and it took only about a year for him to resign in disgrace and then move on to doing whatever the hell he's doing these days. A thread here on DU to the contrary, Newt Gingrich's political career is a dead as Millard Fillmore.

You say your Democratic challenger is running against a long-time incumbent? You say you're being outspent four-to-one or more? You say that the local media won't give your campaign the time of day?
