Another Delay thread (re: campaign funds)
I was listening to Imus, and one of the reporters he was interviewing said that the main reason Delay decided to resign now was because he could use all that campaign money he raised during the primary to help fund his legal bill. Is this true?

If so, wow. How scummy can one person get? And how could Republicans continue to support the guy, knowing that tons of people gave money to his campaign to help him with what was sure to be a tough re-election bid, only for the guy to withdraw, and basically use that money to pay off his future legal bills.

Unbelievable.

1. That's a good point, about keeping the campaign funds.

That at least USED to be the rule: somehow, the law thinks or thought that it's not a bribe if it's only pocketed after he stops being congressman, but I think that all it does is encourage the congressmen to make everyone keep a balance up until he can cash out.

3. Yes, that is the reason....
The Republicans basically don't care how scummy you are, as long as you have money and power.

4. That's just shameful..
And this jerk is part of that group preaching to everyone about "values" and "integrity." So basically he knew all along that he was going to probably resign, but held off announcing it until after the primaries so that he could just pocket all of that money to help get him off the hook legally. He talks about caring sooooo much about his party, but he basically just swindled them.

Once a crook, always a crook I guess.

6. Hey Tom, Jesus called. He don't know you!
Delay is hiding behind his so-called "personal relationship with Jesus".
He doesn't mention that the Jesus he knows is an illegal alien bagman that moves dirty money around for him.
Nothing makes me sicker than these sleezeballs hiding behind religion or the flag.
May they all rot in hell.

And I just read this DU post which suggests that it's no accident that he made this announcement after the Texas primary and will be moving out of the state!
