Winning them over - one by one

There has been, and will always be, senseless carnage perpetrated by human kind on one other. Sad fact. Another sad fact, I am, or was an evangelical Christian who supported George W. Bush These atrocities are not the fault of the Commander in Chief, who is just commanding, or the military whose sole purpose is to kill and break things, that’s what they do. They are my fault. If people such as I had not knowingly enabled this mad man to unleash an army of uniformed assassins on the world these particular atrocities would have not occurred and their blood would not have trickled down onto my hands.

The cushioned, insulated, indifferent lifestyle I enjoy germinated the ignorance that is the driving force behind people like me. “The Blind leading the blind,” Perhaps only I was blind, yet I hope in some way to make amends for my vicarious shedding of innocent blood.

4. How many will there be who can bear to come to that realization?

The sense of responsibility for the carnage is almost too much, even for those who opposed the madness from the beginning. There must be a strong need NOT to see it on the part of those who actively promoted war.

The Philadelphia Inquirer recently ran chart showing "quality of life" in Iraq. All sorts of statistics about how many cell phones are in use, etc. Not even a line about the number of deaths, injuries, devastated families, ruined homes. This level of willful blindness to what is going on is a powerful psychosis. Rare is the mind that, once convinced, can break out of that comfortable state of denial.
