the Delay seat: questions

Was there a Republican primary already??? Who are the other Republican contenders? Are there any? If not, isnt it kinda late to find one who can win at this point?

1. The primary's long over; Delay won.

There will be a special election. Rumor is that the mayor of Sugar Land, not a well-known political figure, will be the R candidate. Pop over to the Texas forum for the latest gossip.

As for whether it's too late to find someone who can win... Delay was trailing the D candidate by quite a bit, so it's not like the R's had much to lose by changing horse's asses.

2. the English word "Liberal"

A friend of mine from England was recently talking with some
Americans who, it seemed, disagreed with her. They then called
her a "liberal." As one who only knew the meaning of the word
as used in English (the far right must burn their dictionaries
along with Harry Potter), she was surprised by these people who
had been giving her a hard time suddenly calling her a word which
she only knew to be a compliment.

But, of course, she only spoke English. She had no idea what the
word now was supposed to mean in Uh-murriken."
