Couric is worth $15 MILL/YEAR??? My ASS!!
So Katie is going to bail on TODAY for an evening anchor spot (a joke, even unto itself) and continue in her $15 MILLION A YEAR SALARY.

This is a travesty beyond belief.

Kiddies, I gotta tell ya, in my cosmology JESUS CHRIST doesn't rate a salary of $15 Million a year, let alone little miss mindless morningshow fluffette.

You know ANYONE you'd fork over $15 million a year for (and Mother Theresa types don't count: they'd give it away)???

I am DYING to hear suggestions on this one.

He got nothing. It wouldn't have worked if he had.

9. Some CEOs earn comparable amounts when you include bonuses
and options. And hell....look at sports stars. It's ridiculous, and the spread between what the lowest-paid person in a company and the highest-paid earns has gotten out of control.

But in the context of our curent reality, are you asking if it's too much? Maybe not.

15. Sports Starts, Too
I think a lot of sports stars earn even more than some corporate CEO's.

I heard today that the average price for tickets to professional baseball games had gone up. I guess that's why.

20. HI Prog! But yeah, it's way too much.
I would LOVE for these folks like Couric to spend a couple of months in downtown Flint or Detroit, trying to make it on Welfare or $5.15/hour.

They need some serious perspective, before history forces it down their collective throats.

10. Are we gonna get the full list from you?
Of people who aren't worth their salaries?

Sheesh.

She's worth whatever she can get them to pay, as far as I'm concerned - just like anyone else selling their services.

The only travesty is that she'll get enough VIEWERS for CBS to justify that salary. It's the existence of the viewers that drive this - Couric's just the beneficiary. Blame the viewers.

13. NOBODY is worth that much.
Not to be redundant here, but when about 15,000 children starved to death today, anyone who could accept that much money as a SALARY not as INVESTMENT income (Which I don't approve of either, but hey, we could tax that) should be forced to stand on a street corner naked and be spat on.

Grow some moral outrage, dude.

Sheesh yourself.

Still, from your position even, Couric isn't to blame. Don't blame the playa - blame the game - and Couric didn't invent the game.

25. It probably just sounds odd
to have people SO outraged about what one woman is going to make - who will probably bring in more viewers and advertising dollars. Not that many women have the opportunity to make that much - without being celebrities of one sort or another.

Here are some other people to be outraged about (from 2004) :

Yahoo Inc. Terry S. Semel $109,301,385

Coach Inc. Lew Frankfort $64,918,520

XTO Energy Inc. Bob R. Simpson $62,141,981

United Health Group Inc. William W. McGuire $58,784,102

Viacom Inc. Summer M. Redstone $56,017,985

TXU Corp. John C. Wilder $54,960,893

Countrywide Financial Corp. Angelo R. Mozilo $52,993,637

Occidental Petroleum Ray R. Irani $52,648,142

KB Home Bruce Karatz $47,288,228

Gateway Inc. Wayne R. Inouye $46,338,744

I think many of the professional athletes who play for the New Orleans teams make more than $15 million as year.

Should we abolish them in order to feed, clothe, and house the kids left homelss by Hurricane Katrina?

11. $15 million could:
- do a heck of a lot of good for NO and the katrina victims.

- help a lot of the soldiers hurt in this "war" and the families of those killed.

- make jobs for a hell of a lot of the unemployed.

- help feed all the hungry children in this country.

- send how many of hundreds or thousands to college?

- ad infinitum - you add your own.

and this is all going to one idiotic vapid giggling "news model"? this is immoral!

12. Here's the simple outline:
Church = Superego (Jesus, Buddha, vow of poverty, etc.)
State = Ego (laws, Constitution, citizenship, etc.)
Market = Id (lizard brain, buy SUV, fear terrorists, pay Couric and A-Rod $15 million, etc.)

When the Market runs amok, it controls the other two and we have the crazy world in which we now live.

16. And here's the eventual response.
When you behave like an Imperial Romanov for a long enough time, eventually the serfs will invent the newest version of Lenin and Bolshevism, rise up, SHOOT YOU, and throw your dismembered corpses in the nearest hole.

A History-Heavy education makes things rather obvious in a socio-political long-term sense.

Took the serfs in Russia 400 years to get their balls up to revolt.

We have the rePukes trying to MAKE serfs of us...How long do you think Joe Sixpack is going to sit still for his $20+/Hour Visteon/Delphi/Etc. job turning into $10/hour, watching his boat/suv/HOUSE all go on the block?

These guys have bad attitudes already, and GUNS. All the Bolsheviks had were a very few guns and their bodies to put on the line.

It's going to happen, and MAN, will it be UGLY when the cities erupt.

No question. My voice work so far is limited to a couple of Jiffy Lube commercials, some promo spots and characters for a radio station, and a little animated film I've been working on for years, but still, I promise I could sit in front of a camera and read the telepromter with absolute clarity and authority.

And I'd do it for less than a million bucks. The first year, anyway. We'd have to negotiate after that! ;-)

Sorry, Bloom. Katie got hopped up on tranqs and put her colon out there for all to see, then capitalized on the warm fuzzies everyone supposedly got -- inexplicably, in my mind -- from the whole spectacle.

This isn't a matter of sexism. America looked deep into Katie's colon and saw her soul.

I hope they lose viewers in droves-they lost me-that's for sure.
