2. Not how much you make, but how much you keep.
And I think it can be argued that all of us are keeping WAY less than ever.

3. In some states, the job situation is horrible
current unemployment statistics never count the underemployed, or those whose unemployment insurance has run out. Someone in the economy forum posted a website that showed the true number of unemployed is in the ballpark of 12-15%.

4. What about people who aren't counted by the BLS?
Edited on Tue Apr-04-06 12:53 PM by Selatius
They drop off the list if they're discouraged and no longer seek employment. The BLS may no longer count them, but if they're adults and are capable of working, I'd say they're still unemployed and that I would leave them on the unemployment rolls, not delete them.

I bet if you counted them, our unemployment would more closely match that of Germany or France.

5. real unemployment is probably close to 10%
if you are no longer receiving unemployment, or you have GIVEN UP LOOKING for a job you are no longer counted..... there are a lot of peeps like that around.

NYT oped (Bob Herbert) said among inner city black males, its 50%.

8. It's only good for jobs that are overseas...
Otherwise, hang on tight and hope that your company's 401(k) won't fall victim to some "mark-to-market" scheme.

10. With all of the layoffs I have heard of..
in the past three years, I do not see how we could have a 95% employment rate. Everyone should not have to work 2or3 jobs to get by.

11. This economy is based around whats good for Wall Street
And whats good for Wall Street is usually bad for the people. When a corporation wants a higher stock price it usually just cuts its workforce. Instant profit for stockholders, bad for us Middle class folks.

When your economy is centered around whats good for stock holders you get what we have today. A few rich people telling us all how great the economy is while we get poorer and unemployed. I think its time to rethink whats important, stockholders or the citizens of this country.

The powers that be love this economy because they have all their money tied up in and around the market. This is why you see the polls saying this economy sucks while you have a few rich folks saying how great it is. Its all about wall street and whats good for them. Fk you.

13. the best indicator of the economy is personal income
and real personal income is falling for all people making less then 1mil/year. Thus the economy is not that good.

15. Bush and his unemployment rate are lies.
Unemployment among black males is an epidemic already.

Newer jobs pay less and offer lower wages per hour and fewer hours per week than the jobs being lost to outsourching and illegal workers.
