Is this statement true?
Of the $2.5 trillion spent by our government in fiscal year 2005, 49% of the total was spent on Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security (source: Treasury Department).

This is separate from the budget slated for the Iraq War right?

I wish they would also publish the % of the budget that goes to corporate subsidies.

1. That doesn't sound outlandish...
... Entitlements and the military have always been "the big two" for us...

I think they usually publish a handy pie chart in the back of the IRS tax form booklets don't they? That's where I'd look...

3. Thank you so much...
I found the original statement on Whitehouse.gov. I didn't see this page there too, but NPR had a link.

4. Their putting all the fruit in one basket. SS and medicare pay for
themselves. Actually make money. The trick is to get the budget data without SS & medicare in it. They you will notice that most of the money went to the military.

6. Damn! That's depressing looking at that!
Look at page 3
CBO’s Baseline Budget Projections

Notice Individual income taxes and social insurance taxes rising steadily but revenue from corporate income taxes staying flat?

7. Well no kidding
This president has always been for the rich elite.

The only thing that I can not fathom is why some of the middle class supported him ?

Although as things get worse for everyone in the USA , it appears less and less are giving him their support. .
