Oh, dear God people. Vote for whoever you want to. If there are super
sensitives here that can't stand the thought of third party candidate....and that supersensitive should see a thread that has a title like:

"I just came back from voting for Kermit the Frog!" (he's a green, right?)

Then do your little tiny psyches a favor and DO NOT CLICK ON THE GODDAMNED THING.

I mean, really. How freaking hard is that?

4. The republicans
Would love to see some Democrats vote third party. It is like throwing your vote away and helps them.

At this time no third party has a chance in national elections. A third party vote is a vote for the republicans.

9. yes, yes....I understand all that. Thank you very much; I am 42 years old
However, I am also old enough to know that people are going to go out and vote for whoever the hell they want to.

I am suggesting that on election days...and following them...if you see a thread about a candidate that you Hate! Hate! that NOT clicking on it will make DU a nicer place to hang out.

Edited on Tue Apr-04-06 03:25 PM by walldude
vote is a vote for the dems. Are you telling me that the 20% of lunatics who voted for Ross Perot would have voted Dem? I'm registered as an independent and would happily vote for a Dem who stands up for me (you listening Feingold?) I threw caution to the wind last time and voted for a candidate I didn't trust, because there was too much at stake and I was repeatedly told that my candidate wouldn't quit till the last vote was counted. Boy was that a crock of shit. Not going to happen again. If I don't like the candidate I'm not voting for them. Period.
edited for poor speeling

13. I agree with you, but can this thread not be hijacked into a Kermit war,
please?

Seriously...Can we stick to a "Don't click on it if it's going to upset you" theme here?

17. Diebold et al exist, your vote doesn't.
How many times do we have to get clubbed on the head with that one before we understand what it really means?

Not for a second do I believe that this upcoming election will be honest.

7. I find it funny progressives are pitted against each other in our system
In any other system, coalitions would be formed. In our single-seat districts, it's the exact opposite. You're better off with proportional representation with safeguards put in place between majority rule and minority rights. This way there would be fewer pointless squabbles wasted between progressives be they Green or Democrat or any other.

To say the two-party system works is like saying the Titanic is adequate because there's actually enough lifeboats for half the people.

15. Well...let's see here Der...let's look at my post more carefully. I
believe I was referring to the time around the elections--specifically about whom one choose to vote for.

So, no, dear. That is NOT what I meant.

14. Well, the real problem is that it contravenes the rules of the forum
Not to be a nanny about it, but it does.

The rules have a bit in there about supporting Democratic candidates for election:

2. Who We Are: Democratic Underground is an online community for Democrats and other progressives. Members are expected to be generally supportive of progressive ideals, and to support Democratic candidates for political office. Democratic Underground is not affiliated with the Democratic Party, and comments posted here are not representative of the Democratic Party or its candidates.

The folks who run this place are advocates, and they are the ones who put in the time, the energy and the hassle of maintaining it. It's their house; they have the right to call the shots. I do note that they maintain a gentle hand when it comes to these sorts of posts, but if they wanted to be shirty, they'd have every right--it's not as though they haven't made their perspective quite clear. People who don't agree are free to start their own GREEN UNDERGROUND, that has a rule that posters should support Green, or other Third Party, candidates for political office.

18. The DU rule has been, and I assume still is...
that advocating for candidates who have Democratic opponents is not allowed on Democratic Underground. (Skinner says something like "use someone else's bandwidth" to do this.) That doesn't mean other candidates can't be discussed. They can't be promoted, campaigned for.

24. Democratic Underground does not allow third party advocacy:
"You are not permitted to use this message board to work for the defeat of the Democratic Party nominee for any political office. If you wish to work for the defeat of any Democratic candidate in any General Election, then you are welcome to use someone else's bandwidth on some other website.

Democratic Underground may not be used for political, partisan, or advocacy activity by supporters of any political party or candidate other than the Democratic Party or Democratic candidates."
